It seems to me that God is considered responsible for positive things, but he is not considered responsible for negative things.
If your home was on fire, you might pray. But you'd do more than pray--you'd call 911, if you could. And who would come? Firefighters. NOT God, though I'm sure you'll say he's there in spirit.
When the firefighters arrive, and save your life, you will likely thank them. However, you'll also likely thank God for the "miracle," and claim him the person to be thanked when telling your story.
But what if the firefighters didn't arrive? If they decided not to come, and you were to die, I GUARANTEE your family members would blame THEM, and NOT God.
So, let me get this straight: when people do something good, it's all thanks to God. But when they do something bad, it's all their fault. How is that fair?
So really, *WE* can't do anything good, by our own account. However, we can do bad things. Isn't that just setting us up for failure?

In manufacturing perfection is a waste of money. "Things" should be built within specification that will allow them an appropriate service life.
This means that we could build cars totally out of the very best stainless steel and then spend thousands rust proofing the stainless to prevent any possible corrosion, etc. We could be a car that would be near maintenance free and last for fifty years.
It would cost a couple of million a piece and that would not include the CD player.
There are no absolutes. There is an "allowable tolerance" on everything from car parts to behavior.
God's allowable tolerance is we can do anything we want as long as we obey God's rules. That does not mean bad things won't happen, it means we are expected to do the best with what we are given.
If you lose your leg in an accident you can lay around blaming whatever caused the accident, including yourself OR you can decide you are going to learn to get around on one leg.
God expects us to have a "good attitude" and adapt to what happens to us. That is why we are judged based on what we do, not on what happens to us.
God does not even care if we break the rules, as long as we learn from our mistakes and become better people. That is why we are saved by Grace, not Law. We can break the law, learn from breaking the Law, change what we are doing and become better people.
Why anyone has such a hard time understanding something this basic I will never figure out. Is it really that hard to udnerstand?

Having worked in the medical field for a long time, I've seen this quite a bit. When a patient is saved, people thank God. When a patient dies, the doctors are blamed. I don't understand the dichotomy.
Just once, I'd like to hear a pro athlete blame God for losing a big game. If God gives the winning team the strength to win, as many players claim, doesn't that mean that he worked against the team that lost?

I don't know how it is interpreted in all religions but since I am christian I will give you my opinion. I believe that God is responsible for all, the good and the bad. It all happens for a reason, the people you meet, the possessions you have, everything. When something bad happens people tend to blame God, they ask why or why not this? When good things happens some but not all don't really thank God. They thank outside sources like other people, or the environment. In my opinion He is responsible for all things good and bad and i just choose to believe that everything that happens to me happens for some reason that will in the end lead to the greater good.

Not true I don't blame for bad on people or good only from GOD we have things in life that human error is just going to happen my 13yr old nephew died when running up a hill with my son the EMT's tried & that is all they could do but I don't blame them for his deathThings happen God is there for comfort in a time like that No blame for anyone when things go wrong unless it is deliberately acted on by us for good(GOD)or bad(Satan) we have a choice a fire is not by choice if accidental & if it burns down there is no grounds for finger pointing unless you saw the fire fighters just watching & roasting marshmellows other wise their trying to save you we all die so who's to blame for that no one people choose blame to help with their own denyile of this crazy shook up world rather than just excepting the things that are hard on our lives & ego's

I think it comes from the whole idea that everyone is inherently sinful or that God "must have sent them". Personally I don't buy into it. Or the idea that God is "perfect" and therefore "can do no wrong". If someone were to save my life I would thank them and be grateful to them as they are the one who did the saving. If the firefighters did not come and I died, well I would simply move on to my next life.

When you're coming from a position of lack of faith, I suppose that's the way things must look. I cant explain why things happen. Why good people die and bad people flourish.
It's not for man to explain why things happen as they do. That's way beyond our realm of understanding. We try to put it off on God, but that's just a scapegoat method. When something bad happens, I dont curse God. What good would that do? It also doesnt make me lose faith in God. I dont go to any specific church and dont belong to any organized religion. I just believe in God. It's so simple and people try to complicate it so much.

well.... you are looking at God through our society .... if you were out on the prairie and you house was burning ..... you would just leave for a while and then go back and rebuild... maybe in another spot.... a better one....so you could say it was a bad thing or a good thing that happened .... and if you lost a loved one in the fire ....... it would not be cause you didn't try to save them....... it was just how it goes ...... no one to blame ..........

It seems to be a good point, to me.
For many religious people, it seems like, since God is all that is good, all good must come from Him, even if he is not directly responsible.
So that is why they say that God deserves credit.
The bad things that happen, they blame on the fallen nature of the world, so God is not responsible for that, because if God had his way, we'd only be experiencing good things right now.

I think God smiles when a firefighter rescues a human. Did God rescue us? Well, he gave the firefighters free will to choose to be firefighters and try and help fellow human beings.
