I have waist-length naturally mid-blonde hair and dye it red; I completely understand this problem. It's taken me a while to figure out how to do it evenly, and here's what I've come up with:

Get some black ponytail holders that DON'T have metal on them anywhere. "Ouchless" ones frequently don't have them. Part your hair where you normally part it in the front, but take the part all the way to the back of your hairline. If you don't wear a part in your hair, then part it in the middle.

Divide your hair into sections about as thick as a quarter and gather them in ponytails. Then, dye each one starting at the section closest to your ears. Work with that one, then go from your forehead back. Make sure you thoroughly saturate each section. I get one box of dye for each shoulder-length wig I think I could make with my hair. Use the remainder to fix any mistakes you made after you rinse.

To maintain a solid color, use a color-deposit conditioner from time to time.

If Your Hair Is Long You Will Need TWO BOXES (Or More) Of Dye And You Will Need To "Part And Section" Your Hair For Best Coverage, Get A Friend To Help With The Back. If Two Boxes Seem Expensive, Try The Beauty Supply And Get Single Bottles (Or Tubes) Of Dye And Developer In Large Bottles (Don't Forget To Buy Gloves, Applicator Or Bowl & Brush) Shampoo And The Best Conditioner For Color-Treated Hair They Have. Good-Luck!

I can relate, its worse for me because I bleach my hair and dark spots are like neon flashing signs...

Best way is to use clips to section your hair in a basic 4 pattern....

Simply apply one section at a time....One thing I have found is that long hair usually takes 2 bottles of color, one barely covers.....Once its applied, feel for dry spots, if you have some or you want to be sure, add a little water to that area and rub it in with a bit more hair color....just like you would shampoo....While processing just make sure its only a little bit of water, don't soak it because it won't process...

Hair color is removed by rinsing, then foaming the remaining hair dye like a shampoo, then shampoo it, hair color foams up nicely....

Good luck

i did that. Basically i just sort of lathered it around like shampoo and combed it through to the ends with my fingers. Also i moved hair out of the way to get all the roots. I started at the roots first. However, since i started at the roots, the stuff was up there longer than it was at the bottom and so it was a bit lighter at the bottom after i washed it out. All i did to fix that was re-dye the bottom section to make it a bit darker.

If your hair is longer than shoulder-length then you need to purchase two boxes of dye for proper coverage.

If your hair is long, you might need 2 or 3 boxes total atleast, or go to a hairstylist or haircut place, they will do it for you, it might be a little costly.

if you read the instructions it should of told you that for long hair it may take more boxes. i would say try 2 boxes of the same color next time. leave in for the time of one box. proceed as normal.
