Hi I'm trying to do the Perfect pot roast tonight. Its a SIRLOIN TIP roast, and I'm cooking on stove top, under low heat for a few hours I would think. (I dont have a crock pot or slow cooker)
How long should this roast be simmered for..its 1.5 KG approximately, or 3 pounds.

You are on the right track, it needs to be first seared to seal in the juices and flavor, then slow moist cooked on top the stove for about 3 to 3 1/2 hrs. for 3 lbs. You might want to add onions, bay leaf and either wine or beef broth instead of water. I also usually cook some carrots and small whole potatoes with the roast.

Don't cook it on the stovetop - it will dry out before it gets done. If you don't have a crock-pot or slow cooker, get one of the seasoning kits with the baking bag at the grocery store, follow the directions & bake in the oven........The slow temp of the baking will keep the meat moist & juicy and you just can't get that in a dutch oven on the stove......Good luck!!

Don't you have an OVEN?

Simmering it will make it tough as shoe leather!
Maybe you should make something else with it if you can only cook on a stovetop---like slice it thin and make philly cheesesteak or French Dip sandwiches.
