Well, prayer is a supplication to a higher entity. The practice of Voodoo is an action designed to manipulate the natural and spiritual forces in whichever way the practitioner wishes.
The former is a plea, in the HOPES the it will work.
The latter is an action that tries to MAKE something happen.
Despite what the other, less-informed posters above have stated, Voodoo is neither GOOD nor EVIL. It simply exists as a practice of spiritual manipulation toward a desired outcome. The outcome can often be a positive goal, such as healing an illness or maladay in a patient, or as a ritual of thanks and respect to the Forces of Nature. Of course, it can be used for evil purposes, as many movies have, unfairly, focused upon. But then, we've seen much the same type of evil being committed in the name of "Christianity" or "God," so those who like to say "Prayer is for good, Voodoo is for bad," need to re-educate themselves and stop making assumptions on something they have no experience with.

Voodoo is considered a religion, a combination of ancestral African, Native American, and Roman Catholic beliefs. It started to emerge in the Caribbean in the16th and 17th centuries. The island-nation of Haiti is often considered the 'capital' of the Voodoo belief system, a country that is suffering immeasurable poverty, despite the alleged 'powers' of voodoo spirits and magics...

Both "prayer" and "voodou" try to accomplish the same:
Ask God, one or more saints, or in voudou the "loa" (i.e. local or African gods, deified ancestors, and/or Catholic saints) to give guidance and advice. More often the intent is to actually intervene and change the course of one's personal life, that of an adversary, relative or acquaintance.
In a nutshell: The major difference between "prayer" and "voudou" is, that prayer is in the mind. It does not require earthly interaction with, or material sacrifice for the spirits (spilled blood, needles in an effigy, a "zombi", i.e. a soulless body acting out as a slave the will of the voudou practitioner).

That depends. A prayer from someone who only prays from their understanding is the same as voodoo, or a jesus genie, as I like to call it.
A prayer that does not initiate from God, through a vessel of mercy (His elect reborn chosen), back to Himself, is a prayer that isn't heard.
Just like there's no difference between the HypnoPope and the real. You're both false teachers.

Nothing. A prayer is a supplication to god(s) for something you wish to happen. All religions have some form of it, whatever it is called. Looks to me like there are an awful lot of closed-minded folk here who know nothing about voodoo and its practices, yet spout the drivel they hear from their leaders without learning the truth from themselves. The sheep are on the march again today, I see.

Voodoo makes for a far more interesting movie - I'll take "Angel Heart" over that movie Gibson did any day of the week.

I have no idea what the difference between prayer/voodoo or witchcraft is but those who pray sure like to kill those who use witchcraft or voodoo.

Voodoo is a catchier name.
Also, with prayer you have to subjugate yourself and learn that, no, I can't do anything on my own, I'm completely dependent on others in all my endeavors and I should do whatever the priest says.

There is no difference.
Both require faith.
Both require sacrifice, of a chicken or the suppression of our desired actions.
Both require works through guidence of some sort of source.
The only difference is the intent,
Harmony or manipulation.
Every single person whos ever prayed, has
at one time practiced manipulation through prayer.
Example..
Oh lord I want to win the lottery...amen.
