My mom SWEARS by that aloe-vera gel for sunburns. Make sure you get the stuff with LIDOCAINE in it. All I can figure is the alcohol content is high enough to dry up the poison ivy, and the lidocaine numbs it enough to make it quit itching. She gets poison ivy every single year, and we could never get rid of it without taking her in for Decadron shots and dosing her on Benadryl for days. This clears it up wthin a few days...Now she won't use anything but the aloe gel! She's got her sister using it too!

Take Benadryl.
Forget Calamine lotion. I used to get poison ivy hard core when I was a kid. I grew up on a farm and I was VERY allergic.
People who say to use Calamine lotion should all be tied up over a nest of fire ants and doused with honey. That crap does not do one damn thing to make poison ivy feel better. All it does is dry up into pink powder on your skin.
Benadryl, however, will kick poison ivy in the BUTT. I was probably 17 when I got a really bad case that sent me to the hospital. They gave me a shot of it and in seconds I could feel it going away. The pills continued the cure. You can get Benadryl over the counter, which is the nice part, you can get it stronger by prescription but it's available at the drugstore. It WORKS, as opposed to Calamine, which just makes you look like you were attacked by Mary Kay.

Try some Caladryl. You can get it over the counter at most markets and drugstores. It is made for that kind of thing, and it really works!
