Hi I'm a H&S officer for the firm i work for & yes it's absolutely ridiculous , i think sometimes it goes too far , i know H&S is there as a very good system for keeping all of us safe but we have to be practical here, how many people die as a result of falling conker & anyway lets build away from these beautiful trees and give nature some space!!!!

As a boy all those years ago with no playstations etc we made our own fun. Climbing trees was a great pastime. Not so long ago in a mad moment I decided while I still could I would like another go at it but do you think I could find a tree that still had branches on it low enough to climb up? Health and safety strikes again.

I read that the insurance companies are behind a lot of this because of subsidence that can be caused by the trees. They have frightened city councils with the possibility of big claims laid at their door for any damage by trees. So this fear is gathering pace and destroying the already sparse tree-lined streets in our towns. What a tragedy. What sort of legacy are we leaving our children?

well the health and safety bureaucrats are not very clever at all, are they...in fact they are incredibly dumb...i care a lot because...well there isnt any particular reason but i think its just plain stupid...children, adults and families are losing out..even if it only on the little things such a form of traditional entertainment or a bit of shade...

Get out of town you softies.
OK, we cut a few trees down in a city, so what? There are enough in the rest of the countryside to cope. It just means sad hat city dwellers won't get to pretend they live in the country. Less than 20% of England is developed: which, for you innumerates out there, means there is over 80% green. Get a sense of proportion. Or stop pretending to live in the country and actually move.

yes I care near me to build new houses they cut down trees that must have been at least over 100 years old.The council give them permission to build. They go on about the ozone layer wanting us to recycle etc yet they let trees be cut down to make money they make me sickThe worse part where they built, the trees would have been in back gardens so there was no need to cut them down..

Its absolutely ridiculous, kids have to wear googles when they play conkers. Give it a few years and we'll all have to wear bubble wrap suits 24/7.

Yes, I do care.
And the main thing we need protecting from are the overpaid do gooding bureaucrats that seem to rule our lives.

Middle-class people also. A lovely Rowan tree I had outside my bedroom window was chopped down because my nieghbours got a few leave blown in their bathroom window in the autumn. Both they and the council mand who cut it down told me so!
If it affects "property" prices, it goes. That East Lothian council for you...
