If your cat was elderly, it could be that h/she developed enough nerve degeneration that use of the muscles wasted away. Also, severe arthritis can lead to the inability to get up - and the cat would definitely cry from that pain. Your veterinarian was a kind person to suggest allowing the animal to not have to suffer any longer. I know it hurts a great deal to have to lose a pet, but you don't want it to suffer, either.

If my answer doesn't fit, go back and ask your vet what happened. They're usually more than glad to explain and help you understand your pet's death.

I've had 2 cats in my lifetime that did this.
One was from feline lukemia before they even knew what it was. She also urinated blood though.
The other was a few years ago. She was quite old and had liver & kidney failure. The vet said it was something that happened when they got older and nothing could be done for it or to prevent it.

Im so sorry for your loss. May your furrbaby have a wonderful life over the rainbow bridge.

It could have been poison, or a broken back from a run-in with a dog or a car. If a dog attacked or they had been hit, you should have seen some outward sign of trauma. If he seemed fine on the outside and assuming they weren't sick, it seems more likely they got into poison. Look around your property and check if there is anything around they could have gotten into before you get a new cat.

he might have fallen and broken part of his spine or nerves in his body. he couldnt move because he was paralyzed and in pain and he had to be put down. or maybe he had trouble walking and had a disease like arthritis which made it painful to walk. your vet was doing the right thing but if you still arent sure ask your vet what happened

We'd only be guessing, you have to ask that question of the vet who should tell you in a way that you understand.

Call and ask for the vet who saw your pet, and ask them to get his record and tell you what they put down as the reason for the cause of death.

Possible Urinary Tract infection...stones in his bladder can cause extreme pain and have him crying in pain...eventually they can build up too much and cause contamination in the entire body

Hmm that is very weird and wonder why they would do that. Did you say you didn't have the money to cover for tests?
