A few minutes of having your bag checked upsets you THAT much? It is not the airports'
decision...it is gov't regs for everyones' safety. It is such a small thing...most folks are so enthused and excited to get to travel...especially abroad, that they think nothing of it. Relax, look forward to your trip!!! Do you let itty bitty things bother you in every aspect of your life? If I could afford to "travel abroad several times a year" I would be thrilled. You sound a little spoiled to me!! Now, don't get angry and defensive...you ASKED , so folks are gonna answer.

There is logic behind the rules, though. Box cutters were used to take down several planes on September 11, 2001. Knives were banned. Explosives can make a plane go boom, which the Government doesn't want. So, explosives are prohibited.
Weapons are prohibited. This makes sense. You don't NEED a WEAPON in your carry-on luggage.
Liquids were restricted because of a plot to blow up aircraft using liquid explosives. I think that putting a restriction on liquids has been very effective and is pretty logical, too. What do you expect airport security to do, test EVERY single bottle of liquid for explosives? Nobody would ever catch their flight. It simply can't be done. So, TSA (as well as other airport security entities in other nations) came to a compromise so that passengers could take SOME liquids with them. This seems reasonable. They allow a small amount, granted, but it's more than what you'll actually NEED while you're on your flight.
No, you don't need shampoo on your flight. You aren't going to wash your hair. Eye contact stuff? Yep, and you're allowed to take that stuff, too. It's medication. Medication? You bet medication is allowed. I think it's mostly reasonable, and a line had to be drawn somewhere.
The airlines don't have any control over it, either. Government regulations do, and the Government can't ignore a threat to the citizens of (insert country name here). If the Government knows there's a probability that someone will blow something up and cause hundreds, if not thousands of people to be killed, the Government HAS to do something about it.
You would want the Government to do nothing? Bah! If the Government did nothing, and something DID happen, you'd probably be one of the first people to complain that the Government SHOULD have done something. The Government SHOULD have done something to stop 9/11 from occurring. They didn't. They ARE doing things now to protect us.
So shut up. I don't want to sit next to a crying, whining adult on my next flight. You don't like the rules? Buy your own airplane and fly. Or check your bag. Or, and this is just a wild idea, but FOLLOW THE SIMPLE RULES. I've been through so many airports where the lines are just backed up so far because so many people don't understand that a bottle of water is a liquid and aren't familiar with a rule that's been in place for about a year now. If you haven't flown in the past 6 months to a year, you should try to find out the new rules, but it's pretty obvious they change as often as terrorist plots are uncovered.
I've been pulled aside a few timse and had my bag searched but so what? I actually listen to what the Government and the airlines tell me and I've NEVER missed a flight, and I've never had a problem. It doesn't take rocket scientist to read and follow a few simple rules.
I'm sorry if I come across harsh. I'm just tired of other people waste my time because they aren't intelligent enough to follow a few simple rules available for anyone to view at any time. The rules are here, and they're here to stay. The sooner people adjust to that, the better off EVERYONE is who flies.
Are some of the rules ridiculous? I'm not going to argue with that. But that doesn't mean they aren't there for a reason. I may not know the reason, but I'm not the guy in charge. Neither are you.

I've had to fly over 25 flights a year, mostly international flights, since 9/11 that's about 200 flights. I've had my bags searched exactly one (1) time, and it was my own fault for having something in there that was prohibited, and was treated very politely and professionally when they opened my bag. Maybe you should learn to pack differently, carry on as little as possible and check the rest. I don't have any problem with the security check and it's seems like you're making a much bigger deal out of the situation than you should. If traveling abroad is something you enjoy, I sure wouldn't let a few minutes at the secrurity checkpoint change my life.

Aw don't listen to people telling you to stop whining. I get what you mean, it is a bit annoying all these rules but it's the Government's fault, not the airlines. I understand why we have to have rules, but I get p*ssed off about how much waiting times have increased, the airports make enough in shop rent airside so they should put on more staff to do security checks.
Going through security really has become a nightmare, once in the queue in front of me was a woman asking the cat she had in her bag needed to be taken out or could go thru the x ray machine - at least her stupidity gave me a smile that day as I was yet again queueing to get thru security!!!

I hope it will be lifted soon, and we will be able again to travel with a small knife or nail scissors in our pockets again.
But I am afraid it will get worse, as more and more things get forbidden to take aboard.
Who would have believed the strict rules about liquids a few years back.
And the people on the radio said that these rules are silly, because a thimble full of some liquids are dangerous enough to blow a plane.
I am afraid that at one time we will not be allowed to wear anything nor bring anything when flying. (Maybe we will be given hospital gowns for modesty.)
Charlie,
I also go abroad several times a year, being European that is a normal thing to do, I live on the west coast of our country, and straight travel any direction will take me out of the country in 2 hours when traveling by car or train. And with 5 weeks worth of time of at work I also have the time to travel.

U seem to be compalining about everything, baggage restrictions, airport security looking in your bag, x-ray machines not able to detect threats all by themselves, airlines ( who have NO control over security ) & the fact that 5 - 10 mins of your life is wasted while someone checks your bag because you haven't followed simple instuctions.
now you've made me sad - I'm off to cry because you haven't been on holiday this year....
