For Hypno Pope;-Mr.Vekatesh's Mother Tongue seems to be Telugu, one of the 18 (Asian) Indian languages. In Telugu "Naagula"=(means)pertaining to Cobra. In Sanskrit (the Elitist Indian Language of the learned Hindu Religious Scholars-about 3%) of the entire India(9,000,000square miles can read and write)it is called "Naaga chaturthi" and "Naaga Panchami"(this year on 16 th and 17th August -2007 respectively)--Naaga=Cobra ---Chaturthi=fourth day from full moon(Krishna chaturthi) or new moon(Sukhla chaturthi)---Panchami =fifth day from new/or full moon. But 16 and 17th are after new moon(Sukhla)-it is observed in the Hindu month of Sraavanam-Gregorian(English) dates would differ, every year--.In Ancient India even during pre-Vedic period when villagers were living in Forests/caves/or mud houses etc, they were very much tormented by the deadly cobras-so in Ethnic Religious practises-later absorbed and assimilated by Vedic Religion(the so called Hindu"ism")-these two days were reserved by ladies to pray GOD that their husbands/ brothers/menfolk, when going out for collecting food, firewood from the forests are not attacked by Cobras. We have come more than 8000 years from those days-but even today Hindu ladies(including qualified ladies M.D/Ph.D/M.Tech,/C.P.A /M.B.A.living in England,USA,GermanyFrance) pray god on those 2 days-Not because of the fear of Cobras but for the welfare of their menfolk.-Very,very delicious sweets are prepared ,offered to Gods in presence of Gold,(embeded with very costly gems like diamond ,ruby,Topas, pearl, coral etc) or Siver or Brass or Mud Cobras (depending on their wealth) and then after Prayers, eaten by family members with friends.Children enjoy those two days.At 70 ,I look back my 10th year longing for those days and for the very delicious Sweets my mother used to prepare!!
