Technically you do NOT yet need a passport for
SEA travel...that part of the WHTI (the passport) law will go into effect between jan and June of 2008. Date has not yet been released. However, some cruise lines do require their guests to have passports. So...the best thing to do is CALL your cruise line and ASK. See website below to read the WHTI for yourself. But, it actually does depend on the cruise line.

Yes you do, you will be travelling to International grounds and you will be asked for it when you enter US...the only way yu may travel without a passport is if you applied for it and you still have not received it ( because is taking several months to process it now) and you must show a proof or processing ...however the website only mentions travel by air .. but there are some countries that requires you to enter their countries with a passport , not a birth certificate nor baptism ... passport now a days is almost a must to travel international.

actually mark is incorrect.....there is a new federal law requiring you to have a passport on cruises to the carribbean. the law should be in effect by jan 2008. (though there have been many reports on changes). i just recently booked a carribean cruise and my travel consultant told me that we would need passports on our travel date. in the past all you needed was a birth certificate but, that has now changed. of course the laws are very specific about mode of travel such as cruise ship, airplane, etc. but you need that passport and you will need to get it asap if you r planning a trip anytime soon. it generally takes 4 to 6 weeks to get a passport right now..

NO... just a Certified Birth Certificate....! IF you are an Adult... YOU may get away without one, depending on the Cruise line!

I have had a Passport since I was 21 and it saves a Lot OF Hassles when Traveling! Even though NOW... You will have to have a Passport... for Cruises.... in.... 2008!

Thanks, RR

New rules require a passport to re-enter the U. S., yet verify with immigration to verify modern-day. whilst traveling in the Caribbean it fairly is superb to have a passport anyhow.

Yes, you do. You'll be stopping in foreign countries where you'll need your passport, and you'll especially need it in order to get back into the US.
