The background: in September, my mother and I are traveling to New York City for 10 days on our holiday. We're flying into Newark, and I had wrongly assumed there'd be a direct train to Grand Central Station (we're staying at the Grand Hyatt http://grandnewyork.hyatt.com/ , which is right next to Grand Central Station).

I tried to use the public transport travel planner to see how to do this, but the only options it gave me included two trains and a bus. Is there any easier way to get to Grand Central that does NOT involve two transfers with our suitcases, aside from taking a taxi?

There is a bus that runs to Midtown operated by Olypmia Trails. They stop about a block from Grand Central but I believe that is closed do to the steam pipe break. I think the next closest stop is Bryant Park whick is only a few blocks away (behind the New York Public Library). Here's a link:

It's $14 one way. Not a bad deal.

I hope that helps. Have an awesome trip!!

If I can help more, send a message, I'd be happy to do what I can.

Well, let's see,

Unfortunately there is no straight way to Grand Central from that airport... So the answer to your question is no

Newark airport has three types of transportation available to the public, that transports thousand of people daily... Buses and Trains and Taxi

You can however catch a train to Penn Station in Newark and from Penn Station you can catch a train to Grand Central Station...

New Jersey Transit usually handles anything out of Newark Liberty Airport there # is 1-800-772-2222
The name of the train company that goes out of Penn Station to the city is called
Metro North the # is 1-800-638-7646 (call for schedules)

And Once you get to NYC there are a ton of cabs outside of the building waiting to take you to any destination in the City....

If you don't mind taking a tour of the City first hand find out if the hotel is within walking distance of Grand Central....makes sure you get directions so you don't get lost..lol

If you plan ahead of time you can get livery service, because the taxi in retrospects is the Only direct way there
