when they doesn't even routinely follow nor give a damn about the main concept and the teaching priciple of our religion? Islam has nothing to do with Politics and other major crime conspiracy, it's purely a faith which based on absolute submission to God. It doesn't even say anything about 'the extermination of the infidiels'. I therefore, get extremely offended and angry when someone deliberately claim the religion that I am followed is based on violence and scum act. So let me assure this whether you want to accept it or not, we are just like any other religion, which belief that everyone in this planet regardless of their race and religion should be fully respected as long as we appreciate each other. Non-muslim who consider Islam as a violent religion is an insult caused by incomprehensible propaganda and analysis.

Hey,
I looked at a couple of answers and noticed that quite many of them were rather... aggressive.
I understand both stands, as a matter of fact. The media, especially the American media, gives a negative picture of Islam and disses Islam in every possible way. No wonder people start believing what the news say, if there is no alternative option and opinion. To be quite honest, I think that quite many are biased, children today hear their parents mock Islam and therefore start believing all the bad things they hear about the religion. So, I understand why people believe all the stuff because that's what they hear everywhere.
Additionally, these "bad people", who have committed terrorist attacks, have said that they did them in the name of their religion. So, thus no wonder, again, that people start saying and believing Islam is a violent religion.
However, I believe that these people have interpreted the Koran a bit too extremely. That's what I think it is about: people interpret their Holy Book in different ways and they have interpreted in... their own way and thus say they commit those attacks because of their religion.
So, I understand your stand, I really do, I know a few Muslims myself and they are nice people. It's just that the Extremes have said the wrong things and justified their doings by religion and that is why the world sees Islam as a bad religion.

Sometimes caused by stereotyping. We see the muslims that do all the killing and the jihad promotion and then people don't know any good ones so they think all are like the ones that are doing all the killing and terroristic things around the world. Even though one claims to be of a certain religion does not mean they practice it in the way it should be practiced. When all you hear of muslims the violent attacks and the proposed attacks they are planning, it is hard to think there are any that are non-violent as you claim to be. Even I have a hard time thinking I could trust a muslim as I have never met one but have tried to get to know some and gotten ignored by them. They don't want to get to know anyone of another race or religion and are not doing the very things they claim to believe is right. I would love to sit down with a muslim to get to know more about what it is all about and why they do certain things as they do. But then I am a minority in that thinking unfortunately. When those that practice and tell the world they are islamic and it says they have to have jihad on the non believers, it makes people afraid of all of them.

You are being disingenuous.

A religion can only be judged by its outcomes, and there is absolutely no doubt at all that Islam can be brutally and unconscionably violent. But then the same is also true of Christianity. There have been two brutal terror campaigns in my lifetime - one led by Christians in Northern Ireland and the other led by Mulsims.

And Islam is certainly almost unique amongst religions in trying to insist on theocratic rule. Though once again, the reality of Chrsitianity was that church power, while not part of the state, was comparable to it for centuries.

And it is certainly true that, while one of the longest military imperial conquests in history was a Muslim one (the Ottomans in Europe) and all such conquests are at their heart evil, this was one of the very few periods in European history when different faiths worshipped alongside one another without interference. This ended with Christian overthrow of the Muslims in violence so bad that the streets "flowed with blood" across Europe for days. Again proving Christianity has been brutally violent in its hsitory.

That's one way of looking at it. I see you get angry and offended - perhaps that's part of the problem. Many people were angry and offended by the Danish cartoons, for example, and they threatened the West with violence. Beheading was mentioned, for a start.
And is it about submission to God - or to other people's interpretation of God? For example, I saw pictures of a young girl being stoned to death for falling in love with the wrong boy. I am sure that God would have had nothing to do with that. And what about the circumcision of women? That is not God-ordained. And the wearing of the veil? That too, isn't God ordained.
I do respect your religion, but you must also learn to respect other peoples viewpoints, too. And not just whether or not they agree with you.

A simple review of Islams history from it's beginnings in the 7 th century until today should answer that question for you. The adherents of this religion have been at war with pretty much everyone they meet be they, Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Budhist, Agnostic, or even other Muslims from the beginning of the religion until today.

Probably due to ignorance and fear. As is the generally the case, people look at extreme examples and paint a whole community, nation or people on the exception rather than the rule.

I do not agree with Islamic teachings that deny the divinity of Jesus Christ, but by being humble and open to spiritual light wherever it may be found, I recognize similarities such as belief in faith, prayer, fasting, repentance, compassion, modesty, and strong families as cornerstones of individual spirituality and community life.

But I do recognize and believe that "Ye shall know them by their fruits."

I'm not sure. I'm sure Islam is not a bad religion, just like Judaism, Christianity, and so on. Actually, I don't think Al Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiyah, Hezbollah, etc. are Muslims. They say their Muslims but they don't actually have a religion because there is no religion that tells the followers to kill other people.

Islam doesn't mean "peace." It means SUBMISSION. Islam absolutely requires its adherents to prostrate themselves in total subjugation to their god, whom they call "Allah." If Islam's doctrines and dogmas contain passages of peace then they are belied by the violent actions of its fundamentalist followers, and its imams' and ayatollahs' open declaration that the goal is Muslim domination of the non-secular world. Islam is a series of plagiarisms of Judaic and Christian books and traditions. If any religion may be accused of being false, it's Islam. But you know what? There is no such thing as a "true" religion. Christianity today continues to insinuate its own malevolent doctrines onto the secular public, mostly through the political process but at times through violence. This religion is also after world dominance. What's the difference between Islam and Christianity? One calls its god "God" while the other calls theirs "Allah." They are very alike in their smugness, self-righteousness, and sanctimonious arrogance. P.S. For the Muslims who answer that the fault lies with a minority of violent Islamist fundamentalists, I ask why the rest of the "peaceful" majority do NOT howl in protest and do NOTHING to stop these fanatics from inflicting terror against non-Muslims? The SILENCE of the Muslim majority is a reflection of its apathy and/or condonement of the actions of their terrorist minority. The hypocrisy from the Muslim "majority" is palpable. Or is it FEAR of retaliation from their murderous brethren?

Calm down. Try not to get too worked up over the nonsense that people engage in all the time all day everyday everywhere.

Stay true to your own heart and mind wherever it takes you.

All of this Earth stuff is just practice for a species still trying to master the fundamentals.

Why do some non-muslim people keep claiming Islam to be a violent and bad religion?

How about turning this around:

Why do some Muslim people do violent and bad things, claiming that in so doing they are obeying their religion?
