My grandpa died last week. My grandma live in the only 2-story house in a really bad, crime infested neighborhood. The family has voted me best choice to go live with her, but I can't do that. We also can't put her in a nursing home. So what options are there? She lives in South Bend, Indiana.

Someone that has had a similar issue, please help!

Why not suggest that Grandma either move in with one of her kids or into an apartment. She will probably balk at these suggestions initially as her and your Grandpa shared many happy memories in their house. Perhaps if the family held a meeting with her and discussed their concerns everyone could come to some form of a happy resolve for everyone. Best of luck to your family, especially your Grandma.

That's a tough question. Have you asked her what she wants? Just because she's older doesn't mean she can't take care of herself. And why can't you live with her? Isn't she family? Options, are you live with her, or move her to a location closer to family so they can see her everyday. Some older folks don't want to move, it's too much for them. So for now let it be her choice. She has some grieving to do and she doesn't need more aggravation from family about stuff that isn't as important right this minute. Understand? Give her some time then approach her about what she thinks she wants. She deserves that much respect.
