Whether they did a laproscopic or open gallbladder surgery, it is still surgery. You are swollen because, if they did laproscopic, they blew you up like a balloon so they could access the gallbladder without damaging other structures. It takes more than a few days to go away. If they did an open surgery, then they were pushing everything around in there, causing swelling. Be patient. And you weigh 4 pounds less because they took out that football sized gallbladder and all those stones....they had to weigh something. Give it time..everything sounds normal.

The gas should move up to your shoulder (right one) soon... The best thing you can do for relief when that happens, is to put a wet towel in the microwave as hot as you can handle and the wrap that up in another towel. Put that into a plastic bag and place it on your shoulder...it really help with what the doctor doesn't withdraw by syringe.

Weight loss is very normal...you haven't lost much at all. Lastly, you just underwent a nasty little surgery and the swelling takes time...be patient.

I have. Yes, the swelling will go down. It hasn't even been a week yet. Calm down, relax.
Now, have you lost 41 lbs? Or 4 lbs. since Monday? I lost 30 lbs. when I had my gallbladder removed. I had mine removed in 1989. It took a couple weeks for my stomach to go back to normal and it's been fine ever since. I you have any concerns, you need to call the surgeon's office. Even on the weekend. They can page him and he'll call you. That might put you at ease.

Your stomach will go down, just give it a bit of time, you were only operated on less than a week ago. I lost weight too at first but I put on 10lbs since, over the last 5 months. Your system just needs time to settle down and it will all work itself out soon so just be patient.

Probably just swelling from the operation. Mine was done the old-fashioned way (where they gutted you like a fish), so I'm not much help.
My best guess is it's a temporary side effect. If it's exteremly large or painful, I would get in to see a doctor, asap. Otherwise, if it's not better by Monday morning, call his office and ask if this is normal, what's causing it, and how long it will last.
Sorry I'm not able to offer more help. Good luck, and hope you're feeling better soon!

I've had my gallbladder removed and there is residual swelling after wards, the eating more shouldn't be happening.the swelling is from the procedure and gas, you will lost weight from the lack of appetite you didn't notice before the procedure then after op. don't forget to do small stomach crunches, hold pillow over abdomen when coughing or sneezing it helps with comfort and take meds as prescribed.

You just had surgery monday. Give it a few weeks. I had gas in my stomach for 2-3 weeks after surgery. I was in pain for that amount of time as well. So, relax. YOU ARE FINE! You probably lost weight from not eating that day or two after.

I can't help you from experience, but the ONLY person you need to be talking to is the surgeon who has recently operated upon you, and whose care you are still under. My goodness, call his office and say you need to talk to him and get some answers from him about the way you feel, and what's going on. Ask him whether these post-operative signs are normal, and how long before it will all settle down. NO two people respond exactly the same way to even the same type of operation, and only your surgeon can give you the right answers as they relate to your personal case. But even he cannot help you if you don't communicate your anxieties to him. It's one of the most important things, to have that ongoing communication between patient and specialist.

Well even if you had your gallbladder removed the new way which I did and I had complications, things can be wrong. I had bile filling up in my abdominal wall, they didnt see I had an extra valve from my liver and didnt block it. But it was so damn painful. I had to be reoperated. Please go back to see the doctor. You shouldnt be eating more. Thats not normal.
