I expect non-religious to badmouth anyone, but bad-mouthing others coming from people calling themselves Christians... that's beyond me.

I know what you mean.
I think they are threatened by it, they dont understand so it is easier to either say negative things or more often repeat things they have heard.
All portestant religions are at least 1500 years newer than the Catholic Church, if they dont disagree with the Church, then they have no reason for existing.
Jesus told Peter, you are my rock and upon this rock I will build my church and not even the gates of hell will prevail.
they seldom go to a source and ask for a direct or straight answer, although i know Catholics that are guilty of the same thing.
You wouldnt ask a Subaru Owner about a Mercedes, go to someone that might be able to give you a correct answer.

Some denominational churches sees the Catholic church as the apostasy that was predicted to come in the bible. The apostasy is when the true church leaves the truth and falls away and teaches false doctrines.
Some churches teach that the Catholic church is the apostate church, but that the protest churches which by the way is what the word protestant means are just apostasies of the apostasy.
That is why they feel free to badmouth the Catholic church. Remember I am just saying what others believe.
Personally as a follower of Wicca, I believe all spiritual paths are right for the follower.

Anti Catholicism is Anglo America's oldest and most cultivated religious bias
Some have never questioned this anti Catholicism
Others have antiCatholicism as the highest reason for existing as Protestants
Many are sincere ,if misinformed, but others have a "cultivated ignorance' and would only be caught dead reading an objective book about Catholicism(let alone a pro- Catholic)
Others are envious, others are paranoid and others are just rabble-rousers and anti Catholicism is fashionable.
Actually, some who are negatively obsessed with Catholicism can become positively obsessed("To become deep in history is to cease to be Protestant") when they" read too much" and many convert.(Check out The Journey Home on EWTN).
How can Protestants leave Catholicism alone since that is their roots and the comparison with is their self-definition?

I doubt if they have really read the history of Luther emphasizing the Bible as the sole source of religious authority.
Being sola scriptura, you would think that
the idea that all revealed truth is to be found in "66 books" is not only not in Scripture, it is contradicted by Scripture .
(1 Corinthians 11:2, 2 Thessalonians 2:15, 2 Thessalonians 3:6, 1 Timothy 3:15, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Peter 3:16).
Jonathon..........why do you pick and choose? Continue the verse to understand lessons of avoiding scandal and of the efficacy of faith.
Efficacy is the ability to produce a desired amount of a desired effect.
Gospel According to Saint Luke
Chapter 17
3 Take heed to yourselves. If thy brother sin against thee, reprove him: and if he do penance, forgive him. 4 And if he sin against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day be converted unto thee, saying, I repent; forgive him.
5 And the apostles said to the Lord: Increase our faith.

My mother was Catholic, my father a Baptist. I was raised Baptist.
I've found denominational intolerance to be pretty much universal whether Catholic or Protestant, it depends on the person's understanding of Jesus and having love for their brother in their hearts.

The catholic church has moved so far from the church Jesus built, there is almost no resemblance left to it. Could that be a reason?
Take an infallible pope made Christopher a saint. An equally infallible pope made Christopher not a saint. According to the Catholic church, both popes were infallible. They don't have what it takes to make a true face for Christianity.

That is the way that people are. They all want to get you into their particular denomination, religion, or lack of. They are not happy unless they tell you how wrong you are for believing what you believe. Believe what you want to if it makes you happy. Make your own decisions, and ignore the rest.

Well, easy one right from the bible:
John the Baptist came neither eating nor drinking and they called him a demon.
Jesus came eating and drinking and they called him a glutton.
Basically, you can't please everyone.
But Jesus said "If they are not against us, they are for us".
Now examine the name: "Protestant".
That's right "Protest-ant".
The basis of their view of Christianity is based on that "Protest" against the formal rules or hierarchy of the original Church.
So while they may be out of line, they can't be accused of not living up to their names.

It's because some of them don't understand what the Church is truly about. Instead they rely on Chick tract publications.

awww, those poor harmless catholics are the victims again, they are always the victims of abuse; guess they don't have a mirror to look into
Jesus said:
Luke 17:2 - It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
aint it the truth.
