Both birds looked young, vigorous and did not have any trauma as though they were attacked by cats, etc. Found them on the same day the day after filling their feeders with fresh, new seed from Walmart. One bird was right under the feeder on the ground. I was worried seed could be from China, etc and could have also been contaminated like the dog and cat food was. Has anyone heard of bird deaths from wild bird seed from Walmart or anywhere else?

Clean your feeder in a 4 to 1 bleach solution. The feeder probably has mold in it. Mixed with bird saliva it turns into a toxic substance. Good luck.

If your feeder near a window or patio door? Maybe they broke their necks flying into the glass. I had a problem with that, until I moved all of my feeders. But I did just now, have to dump my feeder and clean it with bleach, because the seed was moldy. Usually birds will not eat seed that is moldy, but if they do, it could kill them. We have had lots of rain and the birds do not eat a lot from feeders in the summer. So, do take a look and make sure the feeder is not moldy. Since they were under the feeder, I would suspect that they flew into a window or something, I imagine if the seed killed them it would not be instant, and they would die under the feeder.

I get this problem with young birds every year, they fly into the windows of the patio doors. Is it possible that this is happening to your birds? This always sems to be young birds. If this is unlikely in your case, I would dump the food and buy something different, another brand, just in case.
