I'm going to get flak from everyone for this, but I do not care. Why are so many people becoming overweight? I find that especially women are susceptible to obesity at such a young age. 30 Years ago it wasn't uncommon for a woman to have 4 - 6 children and still have a slender physique. It seems nowadays that once young women have their first child they put on a tremendous amount of weight that in many cases they never lose. I understand that fast food comes into play but it doesn't explain why people do nothing about their weight gain once it becomes evident. I also believe the theory of " It's what's inside that counts" is detrimental to todays society. Reguardless of how happy someone may be who is overweight they wont be very happy once they start to experience problems such as heart disease, strokes, diabetes and other more random things like feeling as though they are about to pass out after walking up a flight of stairs. But go ahead people. tell me it is ok to be Overweight.

you make a very good point, and I'll give you no flak on it,ok?
Here is why;
overly processed foods since birth, you feed the kids sugar only, they never learn to eat fruits and vegetables like they should. The canned and frozen stuff has sugar in it. OR, like so many people know, they 'don't like the taste' of vegetables, and anything healthy, so they don't eat it. I roll my eyes at them,I LOVE broccoli and salads.
And then there is the fact that everyone is being programmed to want fast food, they HAVE TO HAVE THAT BURGER. It's healthier not to, but they eat fast foods instead of REAL food.
Basically, the world has been programmed into eating this way, they've been taught that good food, healthy food, is boring (give me whole wheat any day, our whole wheat bread we make it a million times better than the store bread), and so they will not eat it.
They will not change unless society changes, and, I am sorry to say, government intervention with taxes, and law, will not help.
And the fake sugars are deadly, yet we've been told they're 'safe and harmless' by the companies, and everyone drinks they like water.

merely with the aid of fact maximum folk have a weight subject would not make it healthful or ideal. that's nevertheless a extreme burden on your physique and could be socially unacceptable. people could desire to get off their bums and get out and do some thing. people could desire to end eating out and eating pre-packaged ingredients loaded with fat, energy, and sodium. Being fat isn't ok. Being underweight isn't a great factor the two, and the modeling marketplace is commencing to sell extra healthy pictures. Runways in Spain are banning fashions with a BMI below 18 from strolling the catwalk. I do believe others are following healthful. actually, i don't understand many people (if any) who think of that being underweight is super, the two. some anybody is genetically dispositioned to be very skinny. I actually have a chum who has 2 young ones and wears a length 2 nevertheless. She won't be able to benefit weight. She has tried, and merely can not. i think of society as an entire is commencing to pass in direction of acquiring a satisfied medium, in spite of the undeniable fact that that's going to likely be a mutually as earlier it particularly happens.

The world is becoming a place of convienence. Drive thrus and pre-packeaged food. Back in the day, Mom had to make everything. Now you can pull up to a window and they give you dinner for an entire family. Cars are getting more and more comfortable, people get out and walk less. Kids play more and more video games instead of playing outside. Heck if my kid had to play atari like we did, he'd forget about the games. I think there are so many things that contributre to the obesity epidemic, its hard to know where to start!! But it definitely attributes to more and more health issues and I for one do n ot think that it is ok to be overweight. Having been overweight, I can say that!

Honestly, it's what we've become accustomed to. Have you ever seen our portion sizes and say those in another country as France? There sizes are at least 1/2 the size of hours. And from a young age, kids nowdays aren't into going outside to play. Part of it is it's not as safe now, and others are they want to play video games and watch TV. We've become accustomed to the sedentary life. In my nutrition class, I noticed that they showed the difference between being healthy and overweight. There was a man they showed that had swam the english channel numerous times, was in extreme shape but looking at his picture you would have thought he was 50 lbs overweight.
And then there's people that are skinny that can't even put any effort into exercise and they are winded, have high blood pressure, etc.
Now that's no excuse to be overweight, it's saying that we need to realize that someone can be healthy and be overweight.
but i agree with you, about how bad it has become. And what's sad is our kids are being affected even more so, as their being overweight makes them the target of kids at school.
The only way we can solve this is by being more conscious ourselves. We know the fast food places aren't going to change, so it's up to us individually.
I hope I answered your question and didn't just ramble.

I grew up in a family of heavy women. And my grandmother (who was really mean and emotionally abusive) would not let me leave the table until I ate everything on my plate. She cooked buttery, rich foods, with lots of pasta and breads. All family functions revolved around a meal. In addition, good behavior was rewarded with dessert, and depressed feelings were soothed with more food.

It is no wonder that learning how to live with food in this way, I became overweight.

Now that I am healthy, and have tools to deal with emotions and life experience without relying on food, I am losing weight. My perspectives had to change first, and I had to learn to replace the emotional crutch with something not food related. It was very much like breaking an addiction.

The difference is that smokers don't need a cigarette to supply their body with energy. I have no doubt that it is painful to break that habit, but one doesn't require 3 squares cigarettes a day just to survive. One does need to eat... so the temptation and challenges of breaking a food addiction are tremendously difficult.

Here's hoping that more people in this country can find out what they can do to heal themselves and find their way to good health.

It's not OK to be a fat slop. This is the generation of fat lazy parents who want their kids to look like them so they load them down with all kinds of sweets and fast food .Being too lazy to cook a healthy meal they throw a pizza or some other prepared crap in the microwave. I'm 52 and in my school days it was uncommon to see a fat kid, today it's the norm. Go to the mall, see a fat couple and chances are their little tub of lard is right behind them.

i think technology and laziness has a lot to do with it. people dont have to ride their bikes or walk two blocks to the grocery store anymore, all they have to do is get on their motorized scooter or their car and drive. i think people are a lot less motivated too for some reason. o and with computers and tv, a lot of kids stay inside on a beautiful saturday afternoon and play video games...

I dont understand it either, it grosses me out. I dont understand how people dont do something about it. Once you reach a certain point where you notice yourself getting bigger how could you not start working out and eating healthier.

It's easier to eat and not excercise than doing it vise versa. And people are just getting lazier and lazier by the minute. (Not everyone though)
