There are many scholarship and grant programs out there for college freshman. The best time to apply if you are a high school senior is now because scholarship deadlines are throughout the school year. I recommend applying to various scholarships you qualify no matter the amount. I will include some free resources to locate money to attend college.

First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will qualify you need based financial aid from the federal government and the college itself. This is filled out as early as possible (January or early February) of your senior year of high school. It will qualify you for the Pell Grant, student loans, and the work study program at the college.

Second, your high school guidance office has a wealth of information for high school juniors and seniors. It includes state grants along with local scholarships.

Third, the college's financial aid website has a lot of great information on scholarships and grants.

Fourth, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some of them not located on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship websites. There are scholarships for almost any college major and any particular theme including wearing duct tape to the senior prom.

Good luck!
