Christians are to follow the scriptures, not the Bible. They are not identical. There are conflicts between what the scriptures say, and what things in the Bible says presently.

The true Christian faith is not "based on" a book. This is obvious considering that the Christian faith existed, grew, prospered, and taught the fullness of truth for three and a half centuries before the book was compiled. The book is based on the teaching of the Church, received directly from Christ, not the other way around. Trying to reverse this fact can only lead to conflict, confusion and doctrinal chaos, exactly as it has done in Protestantism. Still, the book is a useful compilation of some of the teaching of Christ and some of the history of the early Church. The Church could exist and fulfill its role without the book however. But the book could not exist without the Church.

Paul Cyp needs to do a little more research. Yes the Bible was compiled about the 4th century AD. The individual books of the Bible were used for centuries prior. The books of the old testiment were used in the Jewish faith from the begining. Jesus in his time quoted the OT. The new testiment books were written from about 50-90 AD and used from the pulpit for many years before they were put in a common book "The Bible".

Actually she is very, very wrong. The Bible is a christian's #1 source to understand the nature of God( not to mention the #1 best selling book of all time). Without this book she is pretty much screwed in presenting a good arguement against atheism.

She could have been referring to secular books.
there are many religious books out there, but written for filthy lucre's sake. Most of them almost never parallel with bible teaching.
The bible is made up of 66 books orchestrated and put together through his Holy Spirit.
