If you are referring to the Bible Sawyer it is of course the author. Now your next comment will be that their were many authors as it is a compilation of many books by many authors about God. so my answer to that is that is true but, God inspired them to write about him and to record his word for future generations so in essence he is the true author of the Bible and that makes him greater than the book. We don't worship the Bible we worship God.

I would say, neither. You need the authors ideas and words to make the book and the book provides the place and means for the author to get their point across. They both need each other equally. The worst person in the world can write the best book to change man kind or the best writer in the world can write a book that does the same or does absolutly nothing. If i had to choose one i would guess its the book but i would still say its neither, its 50/50. The reason for it being the book however is because it is the book that people read, and is used as a means to change things around the world that can also be a way of letting out the deeper meanings hidden inside the author that they didnt even know about or that their actions have never shown. In modern times if a person is a nutjob or something and writes a great book its seen as less authoritative or believable because of the authors life.

The Author. Without the author, their great book would never have been written, maybe even thought of. It's the author's mind that produces the fruit of a well-written book. Not the other way around.
It's like saying: "Who's greater? The Creator or His creation?"

I would say the author, because the author can write more great books and do other amazing things, like be alive and create. The book, however good, is still just a book.

The author dies. The book is immortal. Plus the book can reach an audience the author will never be able to. The wonders of text and the press.

I would say often it is the book written. Descartes for example, meditations on first philosophy was a wonderful book. But the man did some pretty terrible things. Often our greater mind produces more than we are.

If you are referring to the Bible the answer is both. Why you ask? Read John 1:1. Just in case you don't have a Bible here it is:
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

If you do not accept the author, if you do not accept the book, then the message is simply ink and paper......
