I have a 1998 Dodge Stratus which is getting too old to function as effectively as a newer vehicle. I was wondering what new (2007+) cars are out there for around $14000 and are good quality cars. Things I want in it will be ABS, Automatic, Black exterior, & good gas mileage. Also I want it to be a cuter car, for a girl in her low 20's.

I was looking at a 2007 Nissan Versa, but what are the bonuses and minuses of this and any other cars you may list?

Or should I spend money to completely fix my Stratus? (ie paint job, tires, some new parts, and tune-up). Its a very dependable car..but has 115K miles on it currently. How much would it cost to fix it up?

What do you think?

Anything under $14K will be nice...please let me know about how much it is for a car you may list w/ automatic transmission. Also, any good or negative thing about certain cars is a plus too! I need all the help I can get. Thanks!

I was also looking at a Toyato Yaris..any pros or cons with them?

And no, I am not trying to attract a guy, I am already in a long term relationship for over 2 years. I want it to be cute mainly because Im a girl...and I want a cute car--not a car that looks older or for older people...nor really junky. A little sporty or just cute is what I want.

Versas are nice but come pricey when theyr'e loaded. Plus there are cheaper, better cars. The versa is a very slow car also. There are better out there. and don't fix your Stratus. It should be nice for you to start fresh again. Great Fuel Economy is a must for me, so i wouldn't recommend something that lacks it.
These cars are all inexpensive, safe, great for a young girl like you, and most of all- reliable. May your choice be the best.

Personally I would keep the Stratus.

Every slightly used car needs at least $1K for something. So spend the $1K and drive it 3 more years.

Did you get the transmission rebuilt under factory warranty? The automatics usually die at 72K and the warranty covers 70K miles.

The Nissan Versa is hard to beat. I guess the alternative is Toyota's Matrix or the Scion bread truck.

Another idea. Is the point of having a cute car to attract a guy? Find the guy, then get his advice. If he is only interested in you because you bought a new car, find a different guy.

Toyota Scion is good. Personally, I would buy a car that's one year old, though since they cost 20-25% less than a new one and have under 15,000 miles. Do some research at edmunds.com and carsurvey.org to find out how people feel about all kinds of cars - it can be very informative!

The Hyundais have been receiving good ratings from Consumers Reports for the last two or three years. They're also much cheaper than the Japanese models and have a 100,000 mile or 10 year warranty.

You're spending way too much for that new car. You can get something small that's a couple years old for half that and it will get you there just as fast..
