I believe we are. I think that more kids get sick now and develope many allergies because of this. They are not being exposed to the normal day to day bacteria that grows in our homes.and therefore are unable to build an immunity to them. Then when a virus comes around , bamm, they are sick for ages. do you agree or disagree and why?

Absolutely. Not only for the reasons listed by previous answerers, but because those sanitizers not ONLY kill harmful bacteria, but the bacteria on our skin that we NEED in order to remain healthy. Sounds gross but they are there.

YES...I agree. You asked why do we disagree or agree. Because you hit the nail on the head. You are absolutely right in everything you said. However, I ALWAYS use an antibaterial wipe when I use a shopping cart. I never put any food items in the seat of the shopping basket. Just imagine how many baby butts (a lot of them with dirty diapers) have sat in that seat.

Parents today tend to run to the doctor when their kids get the slightest sniffle or upset stomach. I didn't go to the doctor (except for immunizations) when I was a child until I did get food poisoning at the age of 14. My fever was at 104 and my mother took me in. What did the doctor do? The same thing my mother had been doing. "Just give her a lot of fluids and let it run it's course". She did and I'm here today. Stay clear of antibiotics if at all possible. They are one of the reasons we have so many crazy strains of bacteria out there. Things that penicillin would cure 20 or even 10 years ago, won't even touch some of these bacterial infections today. And remember a LOT of the time the illnesses we have are from a virus (viral infection) and antibiotics will do nothing for viruses, only bacterial infections.

Definitely. That's why there are so many allergies and weak immune systems today; kids are never exposed to anything. Parents rely entirely on vaccines to keep their kids healthy and forget that day-to-day exposure to germs is also important. The superclean lifestyle so many people try to have is ruining the health of children. The other problem is that parents teach their kids to be total germophobes. Example: my friend has a cousin who's about 5 now, and her mom is a majour germophobe. One day this little girl said "I don't want to go to the grocery store- that's where the germs are!". Sad, sad, sad; so many kids are going to develop OCD and other problems just because of their parents' craziness...

I have to agree with you.

We ALL need some exposure to bugs/germs/bacteria whatever you want to call it. Otherwise, as you so rightly stated, the slightest little thing and the body goes into over drive causing all sorts of problems with the immune system.

There is a big difference between a home being dirty and a health risk...no one wants that, but we are not meant to live in a sterile enviroment.

As with everything there has to be balance.

I totally agree with you, I was born many years ago when hygiene was not so stringent, children would bounce back from their ailments much more than today's, of course there were many sad deaths in the weak and undernourished, my Doctor is careful about giving anti-bio-tics to children, to encourage the immune system to do it's work.

yes this is a true statement...the more antibacterial stuff we use the more the bacteria get used to it and after awhile will not respond to the agents...for now soap and water do fine...
