Guy Problem?

Question

There's this guy at work who I like.
I've been told by one of his friends he likes me too.
The problem is I found out he is or was dating a girl from work. [I dont know which one it is]

How do I find out if he is still dating her?
if yes should I forget about it?
if not should I proceed anything?

In an effort to avoid all kinds of confusion it would be best to just ask him, although I can understand how that will be awkward from your current vantage point. But if you have occassion to encounter each other the subject could come up in casual conversation and then you will know with no uncertainty whether or not to proceed further. There are differing levels of dating (which imply varying levels of commitment), so the fact that he is seeing someone isn't necessarily a deal breaker unless they've agreed to be mutually exclusive, that is, they consider themselves "in a relationship". Again, these are things you can't reliably find out from any other source but him, so ask him.

Get into a conversation with him. Ask him if he's interested in seeing a movie or grabbing a drink with you. If he does have a girlfriend, he'll probably tactfully mention her, e.g. "sorry, my girlfriend and I are going out that night." If not, maybe he'll accept, then you can play it from there.
