try reading the Gospel of Mary and The Book of Enoch, books denied by The Church as being false? But both books have infinite wisdom in them and would probably greatly benefit those of you who need faith. I am an atheist and have read about many different religions and spiritual belief systems, the ignorance displayed by god haters and god lovers is appalling on this board.

You can't prove who wrote the bible either, you numbskulls or even if it was all written by the same author or at the same time. Especially after King James got his grubby little hands on the bible.

it's not so much the problem of reading it... the study of the bible (obsessive, like a drug addict) allowing nothing but the brain washing to slip in... that is why they easily give into the deceptions and contradictions... what a gig self brainwashing... get your head out of the sand there is life and truth waiting beyond the BS of it..

Bible scholars studied each text before including them on the Bible. Usually, they know that the scripture is authentic if,
1.) One book proves the other. example, the book of matthew talks about the abominations of desolation spoken by Daniel the prophet proves the authenticity of the book of Daniel.

Mat 24:15 When therefore ye see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him that readeth understand)

The book of Hebrews prove the book of Joshua's authenticity

Heb 11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been compassed about for seven days.

Jos 6:4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
Jos 6:5 And it shall be, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.

2.) Another thing is the date when the manuscript is written. If the manuscript was written almost near the time of Christ, then they pass the qualification on authenticity.

Usually, Bible scholars use the first. Books should go in harmony with each other. Books prove the other books. 66 books of the Bible harmonize with each other that's why they have compiled them, and we have the Bible.

Those books you mentioned might be the work of the gnostics at that time. They have been screened by Bible scholars at that time and was proven not to harmonize that's why they are not included on the 66 books of the Bible.

You read the books and that is good, but you know nothing about issue which you are addressing. The book of Mary especially is a Gnostic Gospel and does not flow with the rest of the Bible, neither can its so called truths be confirmed by any of the other books of the Bible. So because of its false doctrine and the fact that its stories are unverifiable this book could not have possibly been placed among the sacred texts of the Bible.

I expect that the origin of the two is questionable, and that is why they are not included in the authorized scriptures.

I own, and have read the book of Enoch. I do not, however, derive doctrine from it, although it is most interesting.

I have read many books, by many men, but that does not mean I accept them as scriptural.

I just started reading 'I'll Take My Stand" the South and the agrarian tradition. I am already commiting the last line of the introduction to memory.

Never fear, we shall be remembered when our snipers are fogotten.

DaLinkwent....

You mean well :) Thing is, once a Christian whom had accepted Jesus is THEN Baptized with the Holy Spirit (2 separate things here) The Holy Spirit gives us everything we need to understand and implement what we learned...

so, instead of searching for alleged books not included in the Bible, all a person/Christian needs to do is to SEEK OUT THE HOLY SPIRIT after they made the initial step in accepting God and Jesus, AND THEY WILL HAVE EVERYTHING AT THEIR FINGERTIPS!

Peace be with you :)

Those books were written in the late second century. There isn't any proof that they were written by who they claim. The early Church Fathers would have included them in their writings if they were. Were they writtten by anyone that knew Jesus Christ? Or the Apostles? There isn't a witness to this fact anywhere, so they are not inspired writings.

I might agree with you on the Book of Enoch. Tell me what you find so wise in the Gospel of Mary, and I will tell you why I think that it is not in the cannon.

I guess for the same reasons that the Protestants won't read the apocrypha which was part of the bible originally but they removed...

Their particular religions says those books are bad.

Its true, I am agnostic, and a lot of people on these sites don't realize that the koran or the bible aren't pieces of trash. they are actually tomes of human knowledge about human existence, written in story form. you don't have to believe in God or believe in these stories to glean the wisdom in it.
