A singer/songwriter most people have forgotten today...
Barry Gibb of Bee Gees fame
He wrote with his brothers many hits including To Love Somebody, I've Gotta Get A Message To You, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?, Words, More Than A Woman,How Deep Is Your Love, the list goes on
Barry has also written hits for other artists such as Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, "Islands In The Stream", Dionne Warwick "Heartbreaker", and Barbara Streisand, just to name some.
He also wrote his brother Andy's break thought hit, I Just Want To Be Your Everything along with tons of other Andy Gibb songs.

Kriss Krisstoferson even if you don't
like him as a performer his lyrics are just out of this world and before their time when he wrote them, there are many songs I could recommend depending what mood you are in, he is a very spiritual person and loves all creeds and cultures and learns from them, for a really fantastic love song go on to you tube and listen to loving her was easier than anything i'll ever do again, the lyrics I really wish someone had wrote for me, also sunday morning coming down is good, Jesus was a capricorn, to many to mention but you tube will take you on to all of his stuff, hope you give it a try.

I can't narrow it down to just one. One person that does get overlooked is Smokey Robinson. He wrote a lot of classics like "My Girl" that people still relate to.
