He's eating and drinking fine but i think it might be a little infected as i think there is puss, however when i try to look he goes a bit mental but he is often like this. He's fine in himself no changes in behaviour or anything. His teeth are also really weird, theyre all chipped and knocked about, and some of the teeny little cute ones they have at the front and wonky and rooted higher up the gum, he's always been like that tho. So shall i book him an appointment or is it just like when get an ulcer, will it heal itself?

You should take him to the vet.

When my cat had an absess in his mouth his tooth needed to be extracted or infection would have eventually killed him. Do not wait on this, it could become serious in a short amount of time.

Redness around the gums is a sure sign of gingivitis. Perhaps you might ask the vet to scale his teeth while he's at it.

Your cat probably has gum disease and may need to have some teeth extracted, so you really do need to get him to the vet. A canker sore on the gum occasionally is not a scary thing for humans, but I really don't know how common it is in cats. Dental disease in cats can cause a lot of trouble over the long haul, and can affect their general health and cause them to go off their food. Whether the canker sore heals itself or not, you need to get to get him to the vet.

There was a cautionary tale playing itself out here in Yahoo! Answers within the past week. A woman wrote in that her 13-year-old cat had gone in for a routine teeth cleaning, and the vet -- as he had told the owner he might when she dropped her cat off -- extracted three teeth. Her cat went off its food for a week, and in a second entry from her appeared to be in respiratory distress, following routine teeth cleaning and extraction. If your cat has red, inflamed gums and loose teeth, he has gum disease, and this is caused by bacteria. In the process of cleaning badly inflamed gums and/or extracting teeth, these bacteria can easily enter the bloodstream and cause very serious trouble elsewhere in the body. So if your vet wants to clean and possibly extract teeth from your cat (who really does sound like he might need that), be sure the vet puts him on a course of antibiotics BEFORE the procedure.

Please take him to a vet. I am a volunteer at a humane society in the cat room and we recently had a cat with something similar except this guy was much worse. It may just be an infected tooth or something dumb or it may be the first signs of cancer. I'm not trying to worry you, but please take him to a vet asap. Only a vet will be able to know for sure. Good luck.

Hopefully your cat is just in need of some serious dental attention. Unfortunately oral squamous cell carcinoma is fairly common in cats (about 20 on the Yahoo cancer group) in the last five months.

So you must have the "ulcer" looked at by a vet and not just "keep an eye on it".

I am going to tell you the truth here, I have no idea what an ulcer is but I would take him to the vets because it could be hurt without you knowing so take him to the vets to see if anything is the matter.

You should book an appointment with your vet.

If its an ulcer you need to find out why he has this.

Also there are other ailments that can cause the mouth to become ulcerated apart from dental problems, such as kidney failure.

So dont dealy make that appointment and put your mind at rest.

Take him to the vet. If it is infected it will get worse. He can't tell you what is going on, but it sounds like he does have teeth and mouth issues. Get him checked out before he can't eat.

oh yeah, it will heal itsef after all your cat's teeth fall off. my cousin has a cat with the same symptoms, after a week 3 of the cats teeth were gone. so bring it to the vet if you love your cat, it might be gingivitis alright!

If you had an ulcer on your gum, would you go to the dentist or just keep an eye on it?
