I know it's added weight, but I gotta have something to do, there ain't nothing else to do there and watching camel spiders and scorpians duke it out gets old after a while.

As someone Else said it depends on where you go what you do. I packed a x-box t.v. and games in our conex to ship before we left. I now have an x box and ps2 that I just shipped back and a 19" flat screen w\dvd player. it all depends on what you do and where you stay

It all depends on where you're going and how long you'll be there. Incirlik is not the same as PSAB (used to be) and any FOB or bare base is something else altogether. Electronic toys are just dead weight if there's no electricity and a personal DVD player's redundant in a well developed tent city that has cable TV in all the tents. Books keep your mind busy and you only have to haul them one way. Leave them for the troops on the next rotation.

I always had at least five uniforms and over a dozen sets of socks and underwear. Being clean and dry is good for morale and doing laundry twice a week isn't.

ALWAYS have a good knife and a way to sharpen it, but bring a few other tools as well. Making and fixing things will help pass the time, as well as improving your living conditions and making things more bearable.

The first time I deployed I was hard headed and thought that working out would pass the time....big mistake. Now I bring a PSP, camera, and a laptop. I usually dont bring anything else beside the manditory items.

I don't bring much more than what I was told to bring. When I was in Iraq, the only electronic thing I brought was my CD player and clippers to shave. All that extra stuff just makes my bags heavier. Also when your about to leave you either have to carry it back, mail it home or try to sell it. All things that I don't want to have to worry about when I am re-deplying back home. I do bring extra t-shirts, socks, and underwear though, you run through those things really quick. I worked out everyday to pass the time, except Sundays.
