Heya all. My situation is a little bizarre. My parents were born and raised in the UK, but moved to the US for work related reasons. I was born in the US. After 30 years of green cards, may parents are now US citizens. When I was younger, I held dual citizenship (easier to go and visit relatives), but had to choose at 18 (I chose US, it was more practical at the time). I'm 28 now, and in the next couple of years I'm planning on moving permanently to the UK. I know I'm going to need to get a new passport and work visa, but I'm not sure if my parents situation or the fact that I used to have dual citizenship will make any difference.

Basically, I'm wondering where to start, and who to talk to about this. I know these things take time, so I'm looking to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Things are getting a lot tougher for people to come here permanently nowadays because those in power have allowed too many tossers into the country. Check this site out for the info you require. If you can't find it then use the contact us link and explain what information you are looking for.

Sarch_uk gave you an excellent answer. please consider going to U.K. as a tourist for an extended visit, see what everyday life is REALLY like now, don't give up American citizenship till you are REALLY sure...often, the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, but has just as many weeds as the side you are on. Make a slow, careful decision.

So you want to go back because? Your parents obviously came to America for a reason, I say stay, because has the UK really changed that much in 20-30 years? Probably not. America will have more opportunities for you and your kids will probably want to move to America when they get your age. Good luck.

Basically you can move to the u.k if you can prove your U.K heritage through your parents. contact www.homeoffice.gov.uk for further advice.
