My son had a pet mouse when he was 2 1/2yrs old and she was a great pet. Much like having a hamster. Don't require a lot of attention but enjoy it and runs all night long. Make sure you get the drops for wet tail though. We used a glass aquarium instead of a plastic cage because well they can chew!

Mice can be really good pets. They're cute & fun to watch but they do tend to be nervous & are also great escape artists. It is true that their urine has a strong odor, especially the boys, but this can be minimized by keeping the cage clean. Also, they often choose one corner of their cage for a 'toilet' so you can simply clean that corner more often-- just takes a couple minutes.
You should get more than 1 mouse because they're social critters, boys may fight so get 2 or 3 girls. Don't use cedar or pine shavings in their cage, it's not good for them. You can use aspen, Carefresh, or some other bedding. They usually love exercise wheels, you can get a 'Silent Spinner' so the sound doesn't keep you awake @ night. Also, they enjoy climbing & exploring, & they should have a little box to hide in when the want privacy. Cages are better than fish tanks, but make sure the bars are close enough together. We keep our mice in Critter Trail cages & they seem to enjoy them. Water bottles are *much* better than dishes but dishes are fine for food. You can buy mouse food (check label for preservatives, artificial coloring & other potentially harmful stuff), or you can give your little ones a mixture of whole grains (we use puffed cereal mostly-- unsweetened is better), bird seed & occasional bits of fresh veggies & fruits. They love to gnaw & you can give them chew toys from the pet store, or dog biscuits. We give ours veggie dog biscuits & a little veggie dog kibble mixed into their food.
I'm not sure what you mean by wanting 'common' mice istead of 'fancy' mice. Hopefully you don't plan on catching wild mice, as they would be almost impossible to socialize & could die of fright or depression within a few days. Also, with wild mice, there is a small but very real risk of disease, especially if the little guys have parasites. Despite what some people may tell you, it's highly unlikely that mice from a shop, breeder or rescue could make you ill. BTW, breeders & rescues are great places to get your pets if there's 1 close to you. Otherwise pet shops are ok.
We've had some very sweet & friendly mice but some have been too nervous & fearful to be social towards humans. Even when you can't easilly pick them up, they seldom bite & are still cute& fun to watch. Regular, gentle contact & lots of treats can help them warm up to you, but not always.

Yes! I use to have 5 little mice and they are the sweetest little things! Get a good size cage, about 2 or more feet long and 1 to 1 and a half feet wide. Get cedar shavngs to put on the bottom, only about an inch or two thick. Put a water dish in the cage (the pet store will have some) and of course a food dish. Be sure to clean the cage at least once every 4 or 5 days. You can put things in the cage like the cardboard roller from a roll of paper towels. Your mice will love to crawl into it. You can also put in those little green plastic baskets that strawberries come in - your mice will love to jump on them and chew on them. Mice are so fun and you can pick them up and pet them and put them on your shoulder. They are fun to watch, too. If you get males and females, they WILL multiply, so you may want to get only females. The males fight with each other sometimes. They are so fun and cute. They are short-lived - they live about 2 years, but they are really sweet and good little pets. Have Fun!!!

Fish are lots lots much less stressful yet might require an grownup to assist with changing the water. you will possibly choose to get hardy, subject-free fish that don't choose a heater like goldfish. A single Siamese struggling with fish (a Betta) is likewise subject-free to look after yet they're solitary so which you won't be in a position to maintain 2 adult males together. Fish, different than being fed do no longer require lots daily care. it incredibly is a great first puppy. Mice on the different hand, could desire to have the caged replaced approximately as quickly as each week and so as that they could desire to be fed extra, tamed, held, ect. they're additionally very speedy and ca chew a youthful new child who ought to unintended be too tough. i does no longer advise mice as a usual puppy. They value extra, they choose extra care and there is often the biting situation. The additionally do no longer all stay a protracted time and can incredibly get away and climb into the partitions and furnishings. i might advise attempting the fish first then possibly graduating to a much bigger puppy later. this relies upon too on the age of the new child. in the event that they're 5 or 6 then for specific a fish. in the event that they're 8 or 9, in keeping with threat a mouse or different animal may well be ok.

Some people are saying that mice are very good pets, and I guess the right ones could be, but I didn't have a very good experience with mice.
I had 2 female mice a while back and they were very skittish and hard to handle. No matter what I did they didn't seem to like me. Also since they're so small and quick it's hard to play with them without worrying about them escaping. I put mine in those run-around balls sometimes but they didn't seem to like them.

I had lots of pet mice once upon a time, and they made great pets! They were all very friendly and loved to play with lots of little toys, and they used to enjoy going for a little swim in the sink filled with warm water (I know they liked it as they didn't poo, or panic, and they used to get themselves out of the sink when they had,had enough and also plonk themselves back in!) They are also great with kids as they rarely bite if treated kindly. The one and only downfall to having pet mice is that their urine smells very, very strong, so you will have to clean them out very often to reduce the odor... Other than that, I would 100% recomend that you get common mice!

Yes, I have a pet mouse, Lucky, and he's so adorable. He has never once bit me, and enjoys being handled.
My advice is to get female mice, males urine smells a lot more so they need the cage cleaning very often.
They do make really good pets tho and are great fun to watch.
Link below to "is a mouse right for me", and if so basic mouse care information.
Hope this is useful to you!

No mice make terrible pets. there small creatures that live in a cage and does not do much in its life!
they don't smell good they stink and u have to clean the cage to often. if u want a rodent u would be better with a rat i dont like rat or mice but a rat would do better pet rat dont really smell that good put better then mice (NO RODENT SMELLS THAT GOOD)but if u keep the cage clean weekly your rats wont smell but mice will. rats a friendlier then mice and are more trainable. male rats will get bigger then female.
mice are a waist of money for no good reason!
rats look exactly the same but their bigger and play more.
:o)

Personally i don't recommend mice to be a good pet, although there are cultured mice which is the color is white.
Mice is not a good pet coz they can give a disease and allergies because of the nature of the food they have eaten.
So it's your choicce!
