Allah (SWT) said: "Those that say, when afflicted with calamity...

'Inna lil-lahi wa inna ilay hi raji'oon' (Surah Al Baqarah 2:156)

English meaning is: To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.

...They are those upon whom (descend) blessings from their Lord and Mercy. And they are the ones that are guided." (Surah al Baqarah 2:157)

Umm Salama (RA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saying: "There is not a slave afflicted with a calamity who then says:

"Inna lil-lahi wa inna ilay hi raji'oona, allahumma'jur nee fee museebatee, wa akh lif lee khay ran minha" (Reported by Muslim, and is #114 in The Authentic of Good Sayings)

English meaning is: We are for Allah, and we are, to Him, returning. 'O my ilah grant me reward in my calamity, and cause it to be succeeded with good consequence for me.

... except that Allah would grant him reward in his calamity, and would succeed it with good consequences for him." (Muslim)

She (Umm Salama (RA) said: So when Abu Salama (RA) (her husband) died: I said like the Messenger (SAW) had commanded me. So Allah caused him to succeed with one that was better than him for me: the Messenger of Allah (SAW). (i.e. she then married the Messenger of Allah (SAW) Subhana-Allah!!!

I am a Christian-
God does not give us anymore than we can handle. I have to admit though it does seem like it sometimes- my family have had some very hard times together, health issues, 24/7- both my hubby and I and also financial difficulties due to my hubby being physically disabled. Your question however, I will answer this way- God can replace those things with healing and money- however- what He has given me through the pain is HIMSELF. And that is the most important thing in the world. I have Christ because one day I admitted I was a sinner in need of a Savior- and I know ONE day, if not while on the earth, I will be pain free forever, and be the richest of all, because I will be with Christ forever.

While Islam is a good faith community, its biggest downfall (imho) is that there is no mention of Grace which is what I need most when I do encounter hardship...no Holy Spirit to enlighten me, no promise of redemption or sanctification. On that level, Islam is unfulfilling -- for me. Others cherish their Muslim faith and that's fine. But for these reasons, most Christians cannot find a "home" in Islam.....there is none to guide the pilgrim (by means of Grace). It's just the person and God above. As a Catholic I need Grace, I need the Sacraments, I need the Eucharist especially....heavenly food on my heavenly journey, I need the intermediatory help of Jesus.

Some hardships are brought onto our selfs and others are test from God. Even simple things like lust can be a test. Asking God to help you through will help you pull off into better days.

From the guy above, it did help Job. Job at first lost everything. But in the end God rewarded Job with greater gifts then he had ever had. He gave him all the riches he needed. Also Jesus had to suffer for our sins. Jesus did that on his own to save me and you.

I believe that there is only one Supreme Higher Power, and many paths to get to the destination that we all seek.
Regardless of the name you address your higher power with, I believe in my heart that when we call out to "god, allah, whomever" that our requests and prayers are heard.
We will always receive an answer or a response, however, me may not always be open to receive it....
And all of this happens in our higher powers time, not in our time...so patience and faith are things that we must maintain on a daily basis...

Just my humble pagan thoughts..

Blessed Be

As salaamu 'alaikym warahmatullahi wabaraktu, my friend.

This one has no personal experience of such divine support.

IN Buddhism one is taught to rely upon that which one has experienced personally in his or her life rather than simply following what others, despite their good intentions, may propose to ones belief.

As this one seeks the truth, this one would welcome such an experience of the divine.

May it all be well with you.

Ma'a salaam.

I call on my Lord, Jesus Christ whom, if He sees fit NOT to give me something better, will allow that I understand why I must go through hardships. It is a refinement to better my own character that I might suffer hardships.

اI think ALLAH's (swt) greatest gift to us is Love.* ALHAMDULILLAH

When I/we have hardships, like we are now, I ask GOD to help us get thru this. I tell GOD that Im very thankfull for where I/we are now, AND REALLY MEAN IT.

Going thru a tough time in our life. GOD will see what is best for us. We love ALLAH(swt). I ask GOD for many things because GOD had many gifts for us and HE will provide us with what and when HE sees fit.

*I asked ALLAH(swt) for my perfect match as my husband. I gave details..... ALLAH(swt) matched me with the most sweetest and perfect man for me. ALHAMDULILLAH
*I asked ALLAH(swt) to get me to Egypt to marry my love...... In 2005 I married him in Egypt. ALHAMDULILLAH
*I asked ALLAH(swt) for a new temporary home for me and my kids until I get back with my husband again......... 2005 we lived in a house for 2 yrs. ALHAMDULILLAH
*I asked ALLAH(swt) for a good job to support me and the kids............. I got a good job to do just that. ALHAMDULILLAH
*I asked ALLAH(swt) to get me back to Egypt to work on immigration. We had to be physically together within 2 yrs after our marriage or else immigration would have annulled our marriage........... In March 2007 I arrived in Egypt and we are working with immigration. ALHAMDULILLAH

Not to mention of all the many other things before/after and in between. Im ALWAYS greatfull for what I have. I always have faith in ALLAH (swt). Inshaallah, we will get thru these hard times because of ALLAH(swt) ALHAMDULILLAH.
TO Everyone: If things dont happen right away or not at all or not exactly how you want it, its only because ALLAH knows what is best for us. ALWAYS be thankful. ALHAMDULILLAH
Dont pray just because you want something. You wouldnt want a friend or family doing that to you. As Muslims, we have to pray 5 times a day unless we are VERY VERY sick, then we pray as we can. ALLAH(swt) knows what's in all of our hearts.

EDIT: To those who think that ALLAH does not mean GOD, do some research on languages.

~Assalamu Alaykuum Wa Rahmatul-lah
