I was in the Marine Corps.

In both Afghanistan and Iraq, I had 2 vials of sand from Iwo Jima one that had sand my great-uncle scooped up when he was fighting there during WWII, and one that I got when I wnet there while I was stationed on Okinawa. He had sand from every beach he stormed during the war, and he gave me a little of the stuff from Iwo when I made it through Boot Camp.

Army, I'm in a medevac company and we've got a huge raw hide bone called the wojg bone, warrant officer junior grade. The most senior wojg is in charge of the bone and has to carry it everywhere we go. Everyone is very superstitious about the bone. The company has even gone as far as having a mock court martial for some one who misplaced the bone. On the companies last deployment a black hawk that the bone was on had to make a precautionary landing and when the crew was picked up, they forgot the bone, so we sent a hawk in to medevac the bone out of harms way. They even had it strapped to a stretcher and everything. So basically a giant rawhide bone is our good luck charm.

US Army MP; Served in Iraq in 2003 (220th MP Bde. OIF-I)

I keps a picture of my mother in my helmet, a small New Testament on my left breast pocket (given to me by my mother), a Celtic Cross on my tags and a picture of "Ground Zero" on my Humvee turret hatch to remind me of what I was fighting for.

For those that can't speak no more. For my fallen brothers in the NYPD and my brothers still out there, fighting the good fight. HOOAH!
