The UK National Lottery sells lottery tickets in the UK. People check their numbers and if they match the correct numbers up they win a prize. That's it, it's that simple.
If you get an email claiming you've won a prize, you haven't. It's a scam, probably not even from the UK.
See the official link for details.

Considering how common these scams are, I don't think you need to bother looking into them. You could send an email to the U.K. lottery asking them if you won, but you are really just wasting your time doing that.

They're a scam! Especially if they are asking for money upfront in order for you to receive "your" lottery winnings. Don't be fooled by them.

You can't win something that you have never entered....so, if you did not send in or buy a lottery ticket, you did not win!

They're not really from the UK... they are from Nigeria 99% of the time. Contact Dateline NBC maybe they will dig for you.

If it's in your spam mail then you should know it's a scam.
