I was offered a Nurse's Aide job in a Nursing Home a few days ago...... the money I was offered is awesome and I can not wait to start.
I was talking to the lady that hired me about how I got drug tested for a job I applied a few months ago and how the lost my paperwork and I had to drive back to the testing site over an hour away to get re-tested and how much of a pain in the butt that was cuz someone screwed up at the lab.
She laughed at first butt then said she would have been furious if that happened to her.
Anyways... she told me not to worry that they don't do drug testing but I did have to go for a pre-employment physical.
MY QUESTION IS >
What is a pre-employment physical like for a Nursing Home? I've never had a pre-employment physical for a job.... only had drug testing if anything.
If drug testing is not part of it then what else will they do?
Any ideas?

No in house Dr or Nurse doing it....I am going to a clinic... occupational health area. I went to this same clinic many many years ago for a drug test (not the one that lost my paperwork)... I was told no drug testing is done so I will assume it will be basic stuff as listed in 1st answer.
I just do not know if I should bring all my pharmacy papers ..the one I get with my meds every month or not. I do take a narcotic 2-3 time a week to help me sleep cuz of pain issues I have that bother me more during the night. I do not wanna loose th job cuz of my meds. I do not take them during the day.... only at night and not even every night.
But if she said no drug test then I guess I will believe her. I would think a clinic would have writen down exactly what each different company wants as far as physicals especially sience they handle more htan 1 company...each company must have certain requirements and I am sure not all do drug testing.

Most nursing homes have a nurse or a doctor in the facility that does the physical . It usually is just taking the vital signs, filling out a medical history and signing off. Drug tests are usually done in a clinic or lab. You should have been compensated for the return trip even if you did not get the job.
In Oklahoma, the aides have to be certified and a OSBI check is ran to see if they have broken any laws. Also, Oklahoma checks the IRS and STATE tax commission to see if you are up to date with your taxes. Usually, the applicant has to pay for all of this and if they do not get the job are sol....ask for copies of everything and keep with you when applying for jobs.

I had never had a pre-employment physical or drug test either, until Thursday. I'm not working for a Nursing Home, but I'm working for a bank. They told me to go to one of the "prompt care" facilities to get my pre-employment physical. I had no clue what they were going to do, but when I got there I found it was just a simple drug test.
They took me back into a lab area, asked me to sign a couple papers, I left my purse on the counter, and was given a cup to give my sample in. I wasn't allowed to flush the toilet or wash my hands. I brought the sample back to the lab, signed the cup, and off I went.
Simple and easy...so that was all MY "pre-employment physical" was.
