no, it is not a good or proper response. My MIL used to say that when I would say thank you for a gift. It made me feel like she was doing me a favor instead of buying me a gift. Now if it was used when someone was doing you a favor then I think it would be appropriate. (example)they watched your kids, you say thanks, and they say hey don't worry about it.

I have noticed that the response is related in the way a person is thanked. If I say " Thank you very much " for whatever reason, almost always the response is " You are welcome " ( mostly from strangers ) but if I say " Hey man, thanks for the lift, lets get a beer sometime " my expression of gratitude is less formal creating a less formal response.

It isn't a polite response; it implies that he was forced to do the favor, rather than being a willing party. Still, it at least acknowledges your words of appreciation. I wouldn't criticize or correct someone for it; that would trump their "rude" response.

It doesn't make any sense, so no, it's not a good response. And it comes off a little rude.

Not in my opinion dude. A more appropriate response, for me is 'You're welcome' or 'Its a pleasure'.

'Don't worry about it' seems to me to be dismissive and suggests that good manners are a problem.

Call me old-fashioned.....

Remember Crocodile Dundee? In that movie, he uses the expression: No worries. Your phrase comes close to it. Other responses: You are welcome. My pleasure.

Yes or no. It depends on the person you are saying it to. "you're welcome" is the proper reply, but not everyone speaks that way all the time. I think "don't worry about it" is an informal way to "you're welcome" so just consider the situation and the person.

"Don't worry about it" or "no problem" are not good responses to "thank you." They imply a negative connotation.

You're welcome is a better response. I prefer that over don't worry about it.

Absolutely not - it comes across as suggesting they did indeed place a burden on you. "It's my pleasure" or "You're welcome" are much better responses as they imply you welcome the opportunity to help them.
