Revelation 21:8 --
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Ther you go! "ALL liars." Have you EVER met any person who doesn't at least tell "white" lies? **Every sentient and conscious person older than infancy on the planet lies, *some* of the time. So -- pretty much everyone on earth, Christian or not, is inexorably doomed to hellfire, according to this passage, which provides for NO exceptions.

(And... "fearful?" Doesn't a passage in the Bible TELL us that we should fear God? So what is THAT all about?)

If you're not an infant, then tough luck, gang! That's the... way it goes...

This is really a critically-important question, since, as "Zarth Arn" said, the word "all" is completely unconditional. Since that *does* cause the Bible to be self-contradictory, it may well have rendered the entire volume to be one very complex and eloquent work -- of *fiction*! If for no other reason than simply the presence of this absolutely unconditional passage.

If you were a Christian you would not only realize what a lode of crap you are putting out but would spend more time studying the Bible instead of just reading it until you find a remark that fits your personality.
I haven't seen a question are answer from you that makes me think Christian.

You should really join a christian church. You obviously are very lost in life. And if you are that confused you should try going to a christian church. And not make fun of people who are christians. And when it says you should be feared by God it is saying he has a rath and has control over you. If you do not follow the Lord you are on your own in life.

Does anyone else notice that Roadrat looks a lot like a young Ted Kennedy, and can we really trust the opinion of a Ted Kennedy wannabe? He takes one isolated verse and trys to build a Doctrine from it. Jesus forgives us if we ask and trust in Him. So if we have been liars and ask forgiveness we are forgiven and the sins are covered by his atoning sacrifice.

To "The angels have the phone box -- I like your analogy. Clearly, the moment that John wrote the word, "all," in Rev. 21:8, that left us with the choice of realizing that the Bible is *flawed* and contradictory, or contains hypocrisy. Either way, it is NOT perfect. Since the word "all" is all-inclusive, unconditional, and does NOT allow for any exceptions, no matter *what* any other passage in the Bible may say. Thus, since the Bible therefore is an IMperfect book, that calls into serious question EVERY single OTHER aspect of it. Including, even, salvation! Imperfections are the manifestations of untruths.

So yes, your analogy is excellent, since John's throwing *those* "feathers" to the wind did profound and irrevocable damage to ALL of the Bible, for all time.

Since your answer appeared on another page in this, I'll repeat it, below, so that readers won't have to flip back and forth in order to compare what you wrote with my comments above.

You wrote:

There's a great Hasidic story about a man who came to the rebbe asking for help to atone for lies he had told.

The rebbe instructed him to take a feather pillow to the top of a hill and rip it open.

The man returned to the rebbe saying "I've done as you asked". And the rebbe says, "Now go and gather them all and you shall have made atonement."

The man says "I can't. The wind has carried them all over."

"And so it is with words."

Words create reality. With them we can do great good or untold damage to ourselves and each other.

Everyone sins pretty much on a daily basis, the difference is when you are a Christian your sins are washed away with the blood of Christ , that is why he died on the cross, we try our best not to sin once we become believers but we live in a fallen world.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (New American Standard Bible)
(pay special attention to verse 11)

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

I like your avatar! Is that you, or do you dream of looking like that?

Read Josh Mc Dowell (first publication), 'Evidence that Demands a Verdict'. Before you get your hackles up, the guy has two degrees, AND he got them in the US of A.

Honestly, I'm too tired to even try and explain ANYTHING to you. This question goes on and on, nobody is prepared to really go and do their homework.

Quite right, none of us can keep the ten commandments which includes lying - so were all going to hell.
But isn't that why Christ was sacrificed for you so that by believing in him you can be forgiven all your breaking of the ten commandments and not suffer the penalty (hell) for doing so.
