help with burning dvd's on vista?

the weird thing is when i burn dvd's on my laptop which is vista do it through NTI cd and dvd maker, but they only work on one dvd player in the house and none of our friends and family ones, the dvd player is phillips, so whats the best free burner to use for making dvd's on vista

The burner is not the problem it is the limited software that you have on your machine.
For best all around results that will play on anything you need Roxio's Toast-8
Be sure you select the proper settings when copying

Audio
Video-TS
and there is also a setting for
PC only
Mac only
PC or MAC
This will make a difference in others ability to view anything you copy or burn.
