I have been living with the lump fo 6 months now and its not painful. I'm getting scared because its not going anywhere. I went to the Doctor in my campus clinic who me told that she didnot think it was breast cancer but hormonial but i should go for further tests to be sure. I'm only 20 and i'm really scared of loosing my breast. Ithought ignoring it would make it disappear. Please help. I havent told my mom cause she'll force me to go to the Doctor. How long does a breast cancer lump last before making you sick. I thought i would wait for it to kill me than have my breast cut.

I'm a breast cancer survivor of 9 years...my grandmother had breast cancer and did not survive. I was lucky enough to have a great doctor, who hounded me to have my mammogram done after ignoring his requests for years. I had always had lumpy breast tissue, caused from hormones and birth control pills, therefore any lumps I may have had were considered normal for me and in getting the mammogram found out I had several areas in my right breast to be concerned about and suggested a biopsy. My surgeon checked some of the areas by doing a needle aspiration there in his office and scheduled a biopsy. During the biopsy, 4 tumors were found. I told them I hadn't noticed anything different with my breasts, nor had my doctor, that's when puckering tissue (dimples) was explained to me. Unfortunately 3 of the tumors were malignant. I chose to have a double radical mastectomy, since breast cancer was in my family. Which, at the time my grandmother was still here, but she only opted for one breast to be removed and it came back in the other one, she had that one removed, but it was too late, the other one had already spread outside the breast. So I didn't want to have to be afraid of that happening to me, especially if we had caught mine in time. I was scared, and hated the thought of loosing my (well endowed) breasts, but went to M.D. Anderson, Houston, TX for surgery and reconstruction, which was done at the same time. The reconstruction procedure I chose was called Tram Flap reconstruction, which involves using stomach muscles to rebuild the breast. I got rid of the problem, new breasts and a tummy tuck all in one surgery, therefore I didn't have to be without breasts at all.

Moral of my story: It could be something simple, such as cysts, hormones, etc., but if not, the alternative of doing nothing could be fatal, when there are plenty of options out there, that have wonderful outcomes.

Unfortuneately, ignoring something doesn't make it disappear. You should call a Cancer Clinic at a hospital and go for regular Cancer check-ups on a yearly basis, especially if Cancer runs in your family. Your doctor is probably right but a mammogram and proper information would help relieve your mind. The sooner Cancer is detected the better chance you have of not loosing your breast.

First tell Mom. Then get a mammogram. You might also want a second opinion so see another doctor. The sooner you have this checked out the better. It is best to have this checked asap and if it is cancer it would make it easier to cure in the early stages. If you do have cancer your doctor will tell you the choices you have for surgery. Best of luck. Tell Mom now so she can help you.

Go to the doctor and get it tested! I have 2 stories to scare you to the doctor...
1) a very good friend found a lump, went to the doctor within the week, and was found to have cancer. After surgery, chemo, radiation, more surgery, more chemo, more radiation, radiation burns, and infection she died. Just like that - the entire process took about 6 months.
2) another friend found a lump, went in and had it tested, had the surgery, had chemo and radiation, had the cancer return on the other side, had more surgery, and now has a 20% chance of surviving the year.

These are people who went in right away. Please do not wait!! Sure, if might be nothing. If it is you'll sleep better knowing. But with a family history of cancer you HAVE to get it taken care of while you can.

I understand you'd miss them, but their just breasts - bags of skin filled with fat that guys seem to really like. You can always have them replaced with implants if you need to, but you can never get your life back.

Best of luck!

It is almost assuredly not cancer. Cancers are small hard lumps not larger squishy one. The type you are describing sounds like fibrocystic breast cysts. They are related to hormones. You can certainly have a mammogram to feel safer, but don't get overly upset. And breast cancers are very rare at your age.

Ask to have a fine needle biopsy done.

This is relatively painless, and will set your mind at rest.

I have attached some links to breast cancer and family cancers for you.

Go get more tests done. You won't know until you go get it tested. It's not gonna go away if you ignore it and if you need it cut out you can always get a boob job later

have it checked out , it might not be as serious as you think, you are better off to find out now. Prevention is better than cure and all that. Good luck.
