My cat was intensively vomotting over the several weeks. When we brought him to the vet, his weight was down to 5.8 from 7.5 Blood test showed that white cell count was twice the norm. He was put on antibiotic, the first day after using it, our cat stopped throwing up and gained some weight. His behavior was almost back to normal. In a week a blood test showed increase in white cell count. X-ray was not too clear, except it showed a lot of gas and possibly a foreign body. He was sent for ultrasound and they concludedhe had a tumor in his intestines. They prescibed him a stronger antibiotic and schedulled him for a biopsy and if operable, then surgery. Is it the best way to? They said we shoud hurry up. Should we do anything before all this scary stuff? Second opinion? My cat is only 7 years old. Please help. We are schedulled to bring him on Monday, August 20, 2007

Spend much time with your cat

This depends on how much you love and cherish your cat, on whether you have pet insurance or not, and how much this is going to cost. It also depends on what your vet determines that the out-come of this surgery will be--and, sometimes, there is just no way to say for sure until they're into the surgery. Since your vet has already done the x-rays and ultra sound and lab work, I don't see any reason for a second opinion as your vet can plainly see that your cat has a tumor in his intestines. At 7 years old, this cat should have a lot of life still left in him, and if possible, I would say "YES", go ahead with the biopsy/surgery to remove the tumor. Otherwise, one way or another--your cat is going to die--either on his own (slow, painful, miserable death), or be put down. Sometimes we just have to "go for it" and hope and pray for the best--just like if this were a child. Best of luck to you with this guy, and I DO hope he is OK.

Yes, it is. Mine has a tumor on the side of his stomach, they did the ultrasound and weren't sure if it was on his liver or stomach, but found it wasn't the liver so since it is in a bad placement we can't have him operated on---we just have to wait and see with him.

If they say they CAN operate, it's the best way to go. Don't postphone things, cat tumors can grow fast. They can do some excellent work with surgery so yours stands a good chance.
