It's generally annoying being asked to prove anything, especially when you're perfectly w/i your legal rights to do so. As far as the store goes, theres a chance that they had been busted a few times for selling underage, and a lot of local laws will then require them to:
1.)Fire the offending employee
2.)Pay a large fine
3.)ID everyone no matter what age for a year or two.

The local police will then randomly send in "spotters" of all ages to make sure the business is in compliance. If they catch anyone (even a 49 year old) not being ID'd the liquor license is revoked.

I'm not saying that happened, but it's a possibility.

I don't think I would classify this as a "male thing" ... I personally would be happy to be carded (I'm 41) . I much rather be carded, than to be automatically be given a senior discount. Is your husband an impatient person? That could be a cause of him not finding humor in being carded... It is standard procedure for some liquor stores to ask everyone (irregardless of how old they look) especially if they have been busted before for selling to minors.

Well to be carded at 49 in a comment, A male thing or not that says a lot.

Most states are required by law to ask everyone regardless of their age for ID. Liquor stores in Maryland and Delaware have to ask everyone for ID or they ask your birthdate which they enter into the register. I got over the feeling young thing when they started this new program and now I'm just annoyed.

I'm 17 and only one single time I've been asked to show my id!

I would take this as a compliment, but some people may think that they look immature.

Still I find this strange ;) Does he look that young? :)

I think it is. I have noticed that several places that sell alcohol and cigarettes are now required by the manager or whoever to card everyone no matter how old they look. It's just good business practice in my opinion.

He should be happy. The last time I was carded I did a celebration dance in line at the supermarket...

I do this too.. I work as a server in a bar area and older people take it as a compliment when I ask for ID's. They think its amusing and flattering also.
p.s. you get higher tips. lol.

I always thought he looked young for his age. The assistant was clearly blind in one eye, and couldn't see out of the other.
