the laws of the universe...sure they've been around forever and will be around forever...but isn't that what monotheists say about God?
Sir Isaac Newton "found" gravity a while back ago...should I stop believing in what he said because it's outdated?
Should I stop believing in homeopathic medicine because it was replaced by "modern" medicine(which uses plant extracts all the time in their medicine)?
I understand you don't believe for many reasons...but "it's outdated" shouldn't be a reason...
agree/disagree?

James...I believe it is true...but you have to believe in God and Jesus before He will give you something.

Mikey, no where in that verse does it say that the earth revolves around the sun or vice versa. You're reading something that isn't there.
The bible says that, but does it say that God hung the earth there and it was stationary? I think not, just because the bible doesn't say something doesn't mean it isn't there.

There are two issues that you are conflating.
The truth of the exitence of god is, as you say, not outdated because it dates back a long way. It is just doubtful to the point of being almost certainyl untrue.
What is most definitely dated is the moral teaching of the bible. Taken literally even the most vicious religious bigot would have trouble justifying a great deal of biblical teaching. For instance, they would not want to condemn people for wearing mixed materials, eating seafood or recycling wine bottle. All of these are strictly forbidden in the bible - along with literally hundreds of other things.
But most would go further and say some of the most fundamental biblically based teaching of thee church - such as intolerance for people born gay, and until as little as 150 years ago support for slavery - are barbaric beyond belief.
The world has moved on and now has a very advanced, secular concept of ethics that most of us take for granted. Against that the bible is outdated and cruel.

In the case of the bible I do disagree. The bible is not just outdated, it is unreliable. The first accounts of Jesus's miracles weren't written for years after Jesus had died. It is also important to note that the bible is the only account of these miracles. There are people all around the world performing "miracles" today such as walking on water, that are alive right now, with thousands of followers. You don't even see these people on the Discovery Channel. So why is it that just because we have miracles documented in an ancient text they are suddenly true and believable?
Also the bible is outdated as far as how the modern world thinks. The bible was written by men in the middle east who obviously were sexist, racist, etcetera. They also didn't really know what they were talking about when it came to stuff such as "why is the sky blue" and if you read the first chapter of Genesis you can see that.
Well have a good day, hope this helps.

The laws of the universe aren't man made. They simply are, and whether or not you accept them as such, is irrelevant. They will continue to exist, and function, without your belief.
The bible is another story. It is the collection of tales, often gathered from other cultures, and passed onto the population as a moral guideline. The concepts are man made, and after 2000 years, have been the cause of more suffering than you can imagine. In some (most) cases, these tales are blatant lies, which were accepted as fact, until humanity developed the tools to learn the truth.
Morals are a cultural concept. The universe is neutral when it comes to the idea of 'right and wrong'. These things exist, simply to guide and mold a culture. They are fluid, and change as a society grows.
I won't even touch the concept of homeopathic medicine (except to say that I'll take a doctor and a shot of penicillin over chewing on a leaf given to me by a hippie any day).

The discoveries and works of Isaac Newton had a profound effect on science and the way we view the universe. But make no mistake of his motives in them. Even he said (in Principia) :
"Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done."
His disagreement with the views of the Christian church and the concept of the trinity was the basis for his scientific efforts. Same with Copernicus, Galileo and many others of that time. They were certainly correct to question rather than blindly believe as the church wanted everyone to do. But keep in mind that they did these things because of their thoughts and beliefs in God, their disbelief was with oppressive establishment in which they lived.

It's not a matter of out-of-date. It's a matter of outright foolishness.
If you actually READ the Bible (as opposed to sucking up whatever the preacher man tells you), and you still believe, you are probably a few spades short of a full deck.
No offense to religious folks, but the silly Jewish folklore that is the bible is about as plausible as the Greek gods or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
If believing fairy tales makes you feel better, good for you. But if you want to really appreciate life and the beauty and wonder of the universe, open your eyes and use the mind that evolution (not Jesus) gave you.

Agree entirely. The Bible does contain some universal truths, especially about the personality of people. Some people are STILL re-enacting Bible stories to this day -- the prodigal son comes to mind.
But it's OK to say you don't believe because it is not true, or simply makes no sense, or flies into the face of all evidence. (-: Just make sure you've got a handle on truth and not-truth, I guess.

Thee's a difference between believeing in somthing that's centuries, even milleniums old that you can still prove is true in the modern day and believing in somthing for which there is basically no proof.
secondly we know that issac newton was a genius because we have what he wrote, we can prove it and there are many reports of him by other people at his time. we know almost nothing of the authors of the bible, well most of them and what they wrote is subjective and mis-informed and can be disproved in most cases.
Thirdly Newtons writings are scientific works that were suggested by him with evidence for them being true- since then written litereally thousands of scientists have tested and proved his theories WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DIS-PROVE THEM because science is all about taking a theory and trying to batter it down- if it stands up then you know it's true. religion is all about taking a theory and finding anything that will support it, completely ignoring any evidence that dis-proves it.
Finally 'good' parts ofthe bible (the famous love your neighbour as you love yourself springs instantly to mind) will never be out of date but that does not mean everything in the bible is true- it would be like ignoring einsteins entire theory of relativity because he got cosmological constants wrong!

The Bible was never outdated. One proof is the the oldest book of the OT:
Job 26:7
He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
When in history did we proved that the Earth revolves around the Sun?
Try this: Isaiah 40:22
It is he that sitteth upon the circle(Hebrew means spherical) of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
Is the Bible outdated?
Job 38:22
Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
Did Job ever see a crystal magnification of a snow?

There's a huge difference between outdated "fiction" and an absolute fact.
A rock may be old but it's still a rock you can see, hold, feel, taste (if you're weird) and you know it will be around another long time.
The bible is irrelevant now. It means nothing to 21st century man. But a rock, is still a rock.

aaahh you bring a good moral.
as the ideas and laws change.
ancient ideas will be rejected, Isaac only created the theory, gravity was already there. its all herbs and they actually work.
all religions have parts not useful and parts that help a lot kill the bits that are too old and use the bits that work for you.
