hello guys...i am going to an oversea competition to represent my school in a very prestiges event... can anyone tell me what are the proper routine i must go through?

And another thing is that, how many hours before i should hydrate myself and how many hours before i can take power bars?

Actually, it depends on where you are going "oversea".

I have done many marathons that requires traveling.

Having to travel by airplane is always harsh on your body. Forst one, the air in the airplane is very dry, so you really need to hydrate yourself well while on the pllane. Don't hesitate to drink lots of fluid and going to the restroom while on airplane and when you return to the ground. That is the first and foremost things.

Secondly, the time difference may come into play. I live in Texas. I love to go to California for marathons, because the time difference is in my favor - 2 hours lagging means I can wake up at my usual Central Time and that would be considered early for Pacific Time. I hate to go to East Coast for marathons for the same reason. If you are used to running in the morning and will have to travel to, say England or Japan, for race, you need to take that into consideration and consider flipping your timing of training while still here. Also, make sure you get plenty of sleep - there is nothing worse than having to compete athletically while you are sleep deprived.

As for diet, depending on your type of race. If it is track and field, just do whatever you are used to. If for marathons or distance running, you may want to carb load even earlier. Again, traveling will take a lot of calories out of you. Also, again, lots of fluid regardless where you travel to. As for PowerBars, just do whatever you are used to.

Also, find out as much about the destination as you can. Check out the weather, the humidity, the food, the custom, the race condition, etc. The more you find out, the better.

Prepare the same way you usually do. You should hydrate yourself right before the race, and during the race. The same goes for the power bars unless it is a pretty short race.
