Well, you can join the military at 17, with your parent's consent. 4 years is a long time, and you might change your mind 100 times by then; enjoy high school and if you're still interested in the military at 17 or 18 join up. until then, there's always the girl scouts or the civil air patrol, your school might have a JROTC program or when you start college, apply for an ROTC scholarship and become an officer in the military. Good luck with whatever path you choose.

Talking to an Army Recruiter is a good opportunity to ask specific questions that relate to your situation. Only by working with a Recruiter can you tailor an Army experience to meet your goals, wants and needs. Want to take advantage of money for your education? Need certain job skills? Your Recruiter can give you the specifics on all the Army benefits to help you make the most out of your Army career. Army recruiters are ready with the know-how to answer questions you have about the U.S. Army. And they’re right around your neighborhood.

Some questions you will want to ask your recruiter include:

1. Which option is best for me: Army Active Duty, Army Reserve or ROTC?

2. How long will I serve?

3. What are my options?

4. What kind of job training can I qualify for?

5. Where will I be stationed?

6. Can I bring my family?

7. How can the Army help me get a college education?

You may bring a parent or relative with you when you visit a recruiter. One thing you should keep in mind is that the recruiter is going to ask you many personal questions during that first interview. If you don't want your parents, a relative, or friend to hear the truthful answer to these questions you should go alone.

Listen you are still young and soon you will be getting the calls from each branch. They all want the numbers, I know I used to make them calls. Just look for the right things that you can use on the outside. they will train you. Many of the army schools are the same ones the Marines go to. such as Military Police and Motor transport, there are more. My brother was a Marine(as I)and he worked in skins(patched holes in aircraft)he went to school in TN with each of the other service. So it all depends on what you want. But for right now enjoy your youth and speak with your dad some, I'm sure he would be proud of you no matter which one you pick.

i suggest to go with the family tradition and join the few the proud the Marines...it is a lilttle more difficult to join then the army because they take anybody [[no offense or disrespect]] Marines are usually the frist ones to go to war, they are stricter but they have a lot of history on them [[famous Iwo Jima picture]]
since u already thinking about it, when u go to highschool make sure u take JROTC. it helps alot, and my bf was in it for 4 years and when he joined the Marines he got promoted because of those 4 years. plus make sure u get on th PT team, it helps out alot, and also get good grades :)
may suggest askin ur dad? or when u get older go to a recruiter and they have all the answers u need [[go to a Marine and an army recuiter if u havent decied yet and make sure u look at the optitions ull have]] :)
but for the mean times heres some wesites

I would suggest gaining some qualifications or a scholarship and joining as an officer (if you are bright enough.) Otherwise, make sure that you join with a trade e.g diesel fitter/engineer/helicopter mech that you can take to civvy street with you in case you do not like it or don't fancy completing 22 years of service. Whatever you do, do not join as standard infantry, because when you leave nobody is interested in how many people you can kill. I would suggest joining the RAF as an aircraft tech, but I am probably biased, but you get better travel, accomodation (e.g less chance of tents, more chance of a block or hotels.) you will be on the higher rates of pay, and if you do go somewhere nasty, you are generally kept within the wire, though not always. Just take your time making the decision that is right for you, but make sure that you have a trade for civvy street by the time you leave. Your local CIO (military recruitment office) will be able to give you as much information as you require, but make sure you do what YOU want to do, and not what they try to guide you towards.

Out of any branch I would say Navy is the best. The Amry is constantly in training at crazy hours of the day all the time, even after bootcamp and AIT, and being in the Marines is really tough especially tough for a female. I suppose it depends on how well you want to be treated and whether or not you're o.k. w/ being deployed to a combat zone all the time.

well, you're 13 years of age. I don't think you know exactly what you're doing just yet. Just get through high school first, then think about it. I enlisted in the Navy, but that's because I thought about it first..I'd recommend talking to a recruiter. They're the most experienced.

Take yer time, would you?

Five years, lots of things will change. In four years, if you still have a burning desire to join, then start thinking more seriously about it.
