yes ofcourse.. but for only our safety, that's being selfish. Even God likes us following our faith. So we should believe in him just for nothing.. we'll get all cause we'll be one with him on a spiritual level..

no that would be the worst reason to create an entire belief structure upon. Maybe you should worship Mickey Mouse as the new messiah "just to be safe".
Realize that religions abound across the world, and have for thousands of years. Explore some of them. See what they are really about. Realize your's isn't the 'only way'. Ask yourself why you belive in that particular god & those particular religious practices? Is it because your parents brought you there? It's the predominant religion in your community? Why? and why haven't you looked at others? Why haven't other people?
This is how i look at it. Love may be the most powerful thing in the world, but it's shared by 2 people. Belief, however, is the most personal. A belief is something of one person and one person only. Now, understanding that, why would you not explore the world's religions and philosophies to discover what is right for you? That would be like buying the first car you tried. If, in the end, you return to that theology, then all the power to you. You've tested, explored and strengthened your faith.
If you don't....all it is a hand me down from your older sister. It's not yours at all.

I've tried. Believe me, I would LOVE to believe in a higher power that watches over us and that I have a eternal soul that will survive my death...but I just can't. What I firmly believe in that is that everything that has a beginning has an end, and that I will live a full life with pleasure and pain, dissappointments and successes, and then die and lose all consciousness and being.
Instead of obsessing about getting to Heaven, we need to concentrate on making this life Heaven!
Many of my Christian friends have made the same argument as you have, but believing just to be safe seems to defeat the purpose of faith to begin with, and thus it is more honest and less devided for me to just accept the truth that my logic has already informed me of.

I don't believe in God because logic and common sense tell me he doesn't exist. What has he ever done for you? Why waste time and effort on something so absurd, with no proof of existence whatsoever? This applies to all religions, they're all complete nonsense and cause nothing but misery and wars. Look at the Islamic extremists, using religion as an excuse to murder simply because they hate everyone else. It's just an excuse to 'justify' their murderous ways.

oh my god, how many times can someone use the damn pascal's wager???? No, it is not safe because you know how many god there are out there? How do you know YOURS is the correct one? One not the jewish one, or the muslim one? Or why not zeus? So, no, that would not be playing it safe. Not to mention the stuff in the bible has been proven wrong (900 yr old person, world wide flood, and guy rising from the dead). Not to mention the whole 6,000 yr old earth, when we know it is a few billion yrs old. So, the reason I do not believe in god is because it is childish nonsense that is made up to make you feel better about when you die so that you can be "safe".

well honestly, I can't believe that a human looking super being that never answers my prayers could have created such and "intelligent design" as the universe...
simple as that.
I do believe in a higher power, more like a reason for creation, and it pretty much ends there.
I don't expect to be judged or punished. That's just a human trait and idea used to force people into believing (more like FOLLOWING as in conscious and willing slavery.)
but with string theory and infinite parrele universes, there might be a possibility god does exist somewhere. scary, but I'm still sticking to my guns.
I'll accept "god" when I see "god"

I think a lot of people believe in God and the afterlife because they fear death.
I have no fear of dying, and if I cease to exist when my end comes, then so be it. I face my impending doom with the curiosity of a child.
Back to the question -
I can see no proof that there is a god. Believing in something merely to keep myself "safe" seems shallow. If I am going to believe in something, I want to see evidence to back it up. I can see no evidence on this planet that God exists. I see good people, and I see bad people. I see people who get things they don't deserve, and I see people who suffer for no reason. I don't see any higher power leveling the playing field.
The more religious and "connected" to God and Jesus someone is, the more they give me the willys. So please, tell your cronies to back off!

No, I was born into Catholicism. But I have read quite a few books condemned by the church because they were unholy or mystical. After reading those books I found nothing unholy or mystical in them, they just didn't fit with their idea of faith. So I lost faith in man's god and the books deemed false by man, I don't need the blessings of a corrupt church or the people who murder millions annually in the name of "God". It would be safer not to waste my time on trivialities and lead the best life I can, by being compassionate and helping those around me.

Be safe from what? A herd of imbred morons burning me at a stake? A bunch of cattle that have been running in the same circle for years slowly losing their gumption attacking me with pamphlets? There isnt anything to "be safe" for. Darlin if there was a god he wouldve wiped us out and started over a long long time ago. Or stopped us from leaving this wonderful earth you think he created. Or stopped us from destroying all thses things he supposedly created.

There's no real reason I have for believing in such a concept. As for being 'safe', that's just Pascal's Wager being stated for the ten billionth time--and it's been thoroughly refuted since the Middle Ages.

I believe in God. He just annoys me by neglecting what he created and letting innocent people be punished for the crimes of Adam and Eve. Why should I believe in him to be safe? He doesn't seem like a very nice being to me.....To be honest I would rather go to hell than bow before an all powerful being that lets people starve to death and die from natural disasters.
