What your vet said, it's common in hamsters . don't blame yourself, I bet you were a great mom to her . just give it time and try again before you do though I would bleach the cage and everything she used so you don't re infect another ham baby... I sorry for your lose hun (((HUGS)) losing a pet is the hardest thing us people ever have to go through. just remember you will see her again on the other side count on that.

General hamster care link below:

Do you mean a parasite????? These are common in hamsters and sometimes you don't notice them till it's sadly too late.

You did the right thing in having her put down because she was sick. Your hamster is up in heaven now watching you, and thankful to you for giving her such a happy life. Small rodents don't have a very big life-expectancy unfortunately. Nothing can live forever.

I have a pet mouse and he has a tumor and will have to be put to sleep when he becomes sick also but for the moment he's his usual happy self really. I'm not wanting to take him but it is for the best and I wouldn't like him to be in any pain or suffering.

Maybe when you have grieved for your hamster you could get another one, and give it a happy and fulfilling life also?

I am very sorry for your loss!

i know how you feel, my gerbil just died of a sickness. i just came home from school one day and he was dead. i didn't even see it coming, i took good care of both of my gerbils. and i also somehow feel like its my fault he died, but you have to remember its not, sometimes its just their time to go. does your vet not KNOW what happened to him? or does he think it was a parasite? a number of things could've happened to him. anyway, i'm sorry about your hamster.
