Edit: They don't like my answer, senita! Whatever will I do?? Lol!

What James is saying here is pretty good once you understand it. I am sure you will agree. He is saying that if you see a person in need you should help that person and not just say "God bless you". If you see a person that is hungry would you say "I will pray God sends you food"...or will you buy him dinner?....That is the basic message of this statement

geesh you people are attacking her just for misquoting a verse....the idea is still the same, and still scriptural. People in this section are so warlike this evening.
Yes, I believe it is quite practical and wise as well. We do need to help people in a concrete way, to the best of our ability. Even when the disciples told the beggar, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give you, In the name of Jesus Christ, get up and walk," that was still concrete because they gave him the gift of his ability to walk!

You have only part of the scripture.
(James 2:14-17) Of what benefit is it, my brothers, if a certain one says he has faith but he does not have works? That faith cannot save him, can it? 15 If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, 16 yet a certain one of YOU says to them: “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed,” but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it? 17 Thus, too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself.
The scripture has to finish...but YOU do not give them the necessities for their body...

Yeah that's the watered down version of warm fuzzy christian love...wishing somebuddy well. Not very productive.."Gee, I sure will be praying for you and sending all my positive energy and good will toward your goal to feed your family, Single Young Mom." Jesus has no respect for this ineffectual love. He desires that we love each other the way He loves us which means giving all we have to reach out and meet one anothers needs utilizing the blessings He gives us. Love in Christ, ~J~

EDIT
Thanks helper but it says nothing what she thinks it says
Jam 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Jam 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be [ye] warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what [doth it] profit?

I can't seem to find this reference, but it goes hand in hand with the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to James, wherein he expresses that faith alone is not enough, you must demonstrate your faith by works. This is one that some protestant denominations conveniently ignore.

Yes, because it goes with the idea of faith without works does not happen. You should help those in need.
