Don't mind Stewart T--his definition of education means that he's learned how to use Copy / Paste (considering that he has answered almost every question tonight word for word with that little catchphrase of his).
No, we can't, I believe. There are plenty of good, loving, righteous people out there who do not believe in God. We see what we consider Christian attributes and assume that they are, and unfortunately we do not minister to these people because of our own misconception.
The Holy Spirit is the only way we can know--without just asking, of course.

no educated person believes in the christian cult....it's just not possible! We tend to humor Christians even thought we feel embarrassed for them....like watching the slow child at school have to read!
