my sister and my ex boyfriend told me of a time where they were sleep and then would wake up (or maybe dreaming) where the couldnt breath, talk, hear, NOTHING, they were like brain dead, then snapped out of it. I recall something like a fat man was sitting on their chest. Freaks the hell out of me, any input?

no its called something, some people get it all the time, it happened to me once, when i was taking alot of sleeping pills to sleep and smoking alot of pot. Back in the day people used to say there was a gargoyle or witch sitting on there chest or something that describes it, an old wives tale. Its like part of the brain wakes up but the body remains paralyzed. Its also used to discredit some alien abduction stories. i guess

This sounds like sleep apnea. See the following link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea

Basically this is a pause in breathing (from the above link) during sleep. They probably woke up during an attack and due to the shock of not being able to breathe, starting panicking and feeling these other symptoms. (Sorry, I did not go through the article in depth)

Though, I think it odd that two people would have an attack the same time. It might be something else at play. Since you said it only happened once, it might not actually be sleep apnea.

I don't mean to startle, but if you believe in spirits, then they could have encountered some mischievous spirits.

If you are connected to God, then you will understand what I am saying. This is just a "visitation" from a evil spirit or demonic spirit. Demons can paralyze people with their presence when the come into your room. People experience paralysis because of the "fear" that comes from these evil spirit. I experienced this alot as a teenager, where I would feel a presence come into my room and I could not see or move any part of my body. Somtimes I could not breathe. Later I found out it was a demon visiting me.

Something similar use to happen to my husband when he was in jail. He said when he was laying down he felt as though he was getting chocked and felt paralyzed he would hear his roommate trying to talk to him but he could not answer back, like his voice was gone he had no control of his body. He thinks it was the devil or maybe a dead spirit that use to be locked up there. The same think was happening to his roommates.

According to Dreamcrowd:

To dream that you are dumb, denotes your inability to persuade others to see your point of view.

To dream that you are deaf, indicates that you are feeling secluded from the world, You may be closing yourself off from new experiences or shutting yourself out. To dream that someone else is deaf, suggests that someone close to you is withdrawn.
