Treatment is generally with antiviral drugs such as acyclovir (Zovirax), or prodrugs such as famciclovir (Famvir), or valacyclovir (Valtrex). For the antiviral drugs to be most effective, patients should begin taking them as soon as possible after the appearance of the rash, within 12 to 72 hours for maximum efficacy.

I don't think there is a mortality rate for Shingles. Post Shingles aches and pains are often treated with anti-depressants, Cyclobenzaprine, anti-inflammatories, Neurontin, and/or Lyrica.

I am sure your doc must have given you an antiviral medicine (acyclovir) for shingles. It would take about 48 hours to decrease the pain with that medicine alone. If the pain is unbearable.... you could take any analgesics like paracetamol, ibuprofen etc. If there are blisters inside the eye... make sure you keep that area clean wash gently with water. Dont worry if the treatment has started its just matter of hours that the pain will go down. All the best.

I've never heard of a mortality rate or any study thereof for shingles. That is simply caused by the chicken pox virus or measels from when you were a kid. Famvir, Valtrex, Acyclovir usually decrease length of the rash and pain whereas tyelnol will lessen the pain.

Thanks to all those that answered, I posted this 9 years ago when Shingles hit me. Today I just remember that like Marla put it, it hurt like crazy. And today I am the "Shingles Guru," whenever a friend goes down with the Shingles. I try as best as possible to sympathize with him/her, and explain as best as possible, that the best cure for Shingles is TIME. "Be patient and in a matter of weeks, a month or two it will go away."

You can often relieve the mild pain, swelling and inflammation of hemorrhoids with home treatments. Often these are the only treatments needed https://tr.im/L5P7e
With these treatments, hemorrhoid symptoms often go away within a week. See your doctor if you don't get relief in a week, or sooner if you have severe pain or bleeding.
