They are just being nosy and digging for any and all information that you will give them. They figure something has to be wrong or something happened in your life that caused you not to get married. For the life of them they can't realize maybe you just want to be single.

I don't know if those ignorant people are so much asking a question as trying to make a statement about themselves.
If they are unhappily married they may be trying to make you feel guilty and bring you down to their level of unhappiness.
If they are happily married, they may be trying to show their superiority to you by sticking out their ego and saying why aren't you living your life like my perfect life.
And of course there are those who want to know about your love live. Living with the same guy every day must feel boring to them so they seem to think that you have a big hot exiting life going for you everyday.
In answer to some of these questions I just say "Get a life", then sarcastically add "Oh! I am sorry, you are married, You already have a life." lol .

Tell them the right gay guy has not come along to sweep you off your feet yet. That should give them pause for thought. ;-)
Seriously, people have all these expectations about when and how people should get married, have kids, etc. Just tell them it's none of their business, and that you will do these things when you're good and ready. It's always better to be happily single, instead of miserably divorced repeatedly, and paying child support. Once they offer to help pay those bills, then their comments merit serious consideration. Until then, though, ask them politely but firmly to butt out.

I tell them I am so sick and wouldn't inflict that on anyone. I'm a Fibromyalgia patient. It's hard for most ppl to understand FM...so I basically don't want anyone in my life.
I heard a woman who was asked by a senior citizen---
"Dearie, why haven't you gotten married yet?"
Her answer was---
"I hear a lot of old ladies break a hip. What's holding you back?"

I think they are just being nosey. They are probably married and want to rub your nose in it. It makes them feel like they are a better person than you. They are insecure. Just tell them, none of your business, or make up some outrageous story like, well, I was having an affair with this older woman, then I found out she was your mom, so I dumped her.

Dont give them what they want...give them an answer that will stop them from putting people on the spot in the future. example: I have not found someone yet that deserves to be as happy as I could make him.

It's a stupid question, versed by those who are too narrow-minded to realize or accept that others might not follow the traditional societal path.

Just tell 'em your woman hasn't gotten her divorce yet. That'll put 'em at a loss for words.
