Do you know what those orange lights in all four corners of your car are for?

2007-08-17 20:06:31 · 25 answers · asked by ChocLover 7 in Cars & Transportation Insurance & Registration

I think it's a secret that only women know!

Ok, for all of you that don't get it - the four orange lights are actually indicators (Oklatom, I am in the UK they are not red here) and you are supposed to use them to, funnily enough, INDICATE! That means, let other people know where the heck you are going!

Sorry if I offended you Welsh Lad, I have seen women not use them but it is usually (90% of the time) male drivers that do not bother

I believe the lights you are referring to are indicators, which drivers use to indicate which way you are going to turn.
Mind you I noticed that a lot of the previous postings did not know.

You mean the direction indicators that women operate 5 yards before the turn

Women only use trafficators and men don't. i was nearly written off by a woman driver who decided to change lanes at 60mph without signaling or looking in her mirror. Perhaps she was using the mirror to touch up her make up and did not have ahand free to use any signals. So that's OK then

Yes indicators and I do use them
It's not just men I also have seen women not using them also, drivers must think I can read their minds at which exit they are taking at roundabouts

A tip for all women drivers . If you make a small diagram of where your gear stick and handbrake are situated and stick it to your dashboard. It will save you looking for them every time the lights turn green.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit !!. But the highest form of entertainment, please confirm that you are A lady ? there seems to be A question about that. And if that is indeed the case perhaps you could explain why there is a mirror in front in the middle of the wind screen ? go on tell me its to repair your makeup.

They are driving lights that mark the corners of your car at night so other drivers can see you better.

They are marker lights. They are used for parking lights on occasion, and they also come on when the headlights are on to indicate the size of the vehicle. For some of the bigger commercial vehicles they will also have the rear red lights in a pattern of 3 to mark the height of the vehicle.

If you are attempting to talk about turn signals, just indicate turn signals, not 'the orange lights on the 4 corners.' In reality turn signals are white or amber in the front, and red or amber in the rear, and are often with the brake lights. Some vehicles also have cornering lights.

You can make them all flash at once, indicating to other drivers that your car is now invisible!
